What is Seti@home?

SETI@home is a scientific experiment that harnesses the power of hundreds
of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial
Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that
downloads and analyzes radio telescope data. There's a small but captivating
possibility that your computer will detect the faint murmur of a civilization
beyond Earth.
Read the FAQ, and download
the software.

New! Tips to make your computer churn out more work units.
- Use a text based version if you have NT.
- Minimise the SETI@home window. Just leave it in the tray. Don't look at it. Producing those
nice beautiful FFT graphs take up processor speed.
- Don't use their screensaver, use a blank screen if you need a screensaver.
- Turn off all unnecessary TSR windows applications, e.g. MS Outlook, Scheduler.
- If you have Virus Shield, set it to scan program files only. If not, your virus scanner would
steal CPU cycles everytime a chunk of processed data is written onto the disk.
- Produce work units on your college network computers. (Make sure you are allowed to.)
- Use more than one computer. Use your sister's, or your brother's.
- Buy a new and faster computer, dumb.
