Technical Description

Single-engine, single-seat fighter monoplane of all-metal construction.
Fully cantilever, single-piece low wing with detachable tips. Semi-elliptical planform, varying in thickness from 15% at the root to 8% at the tip. Light alloy structure with three double T spars, linked by sheet-metal ribs. Load-hearing skins, stiffened internally by corrugated sheet-metal on the top and special curled stringers on the bottom. Access to the fuel tanks is gained through a number of easily removed panels attached with screws.
All-metal split flaps in two parts, extending under the fuselage. Erise-type ailerons, statically balanced, with light alloy structure and fabric covering.
Light-alloy stressed skin fuselage, with structure consisting of sheet-metal bulkheads and Z stringers, strengthened in the cockpit area with four box spars which at one end support the engine-bearer attachments. Bulkheads 6 and 7, located imediately behind the cockpit, are strengthened for the dual purpose of (a) serving as transition between the fully monocoque rear fuselage and the open front section and (b) supporting the pylon designed to proctect the pilot in case of nose-over.
Enclosed cockpit with canopy tilting to the right. Standard windscreen with 50 mm frontal armored glass. Vertically and horizontally adjustable armored seat made of 8 mm steel sheet. Armored head est attached to bulkhead 6.
Daimler Benz DB.605A-1 engine rated at 1,475 HP, of original German production or built  under license by Fiat as the RA.1050 RC.58 Tifone (Typhoon), turning a right-handed three-bladed Piaggio P.2001 constant speed, mechanically controlled variable-pitch metal propeller.
Engine mounts comprising two light alloy forgings with engine pick-up points. The bearers are connected with spherical attachments to the upper fuselage attachments; on the lower side, they are supported by two steel tube struts, in the vertical plane, with a third diagonal bracing strut absorbs side loads. The engine is fixed to its bearers with special steel and rubber mounts.
Engine coolant and oil radiators placed side by side, forming a single block and placed partially ducted under the fuselage. Air flow regulated by movable flaps placed at the exhaust.
Fully cantilever empennage with light alloy structure. Metal covered fin and stabilizer; fabric covered control surfaces, balanced both statically and dynamically, with trim tabs.
Armament consisting of a 20 mm Mauser MG 151 cannon firing through the propeller boss (150 rounds) and two 12.7 mm Breda SAFAT machine guns firing through the propeller arc. Two 20 mm in the wings; total rounds carried, 600 20 mm and 700 12,7 mm.
Various combinations of loads carriable from three stations, including one placed asymmetrically under the fuselage (up to 640 kg) and one under each wing (up to 160 kg each).

Four self-sea1ing feel tanks in the wings, with total capacity of 580 liters. Possibility of carrying three droptanks, including a single central 240 liter tank and two 100 liter wing tanks.
Landing gear consisting of two hidraulically' operated main legs retracting outward. Oleodinamically actuated tailwheel retracting into a well closed automatically by two sheet metal doors.
