Russett Family
The Hattie M Frizzell Family

John Russett ,the progenitor of my RUSSETT line was born in 1811,Wittenberg,Germany. He made the journey with his young family  to America in about 1835-1840 time frame. We only know his wifes 1st name to be Mary, and  born abt.1818 in Wittenberg. We have no furhter details about her.
John and Mary brought 5 children with them, and we believe they had 2 more in Grafton Twp.,Lorain Co.Ohio.
We assume the German family sailed into port along the eastern seaside, and perhaps was sponsered by a Church in the mid-west looking for people to come farm and settle their land. This family might have known some German families that had settled in Ohio many  and had writtteen to the RUSSETT's in Germany and convinced them to come to the New World, America.
No matter who or what made them decide, John RUSSETT and family made the journey and looked forward to leaving the politcal nitemare in Germany behind them.

*Joseph Russett -b.1844,had lived in Henry Co,Defiance Co,.and Putnam Co.before he died.
Joseph Russett met and married Katherine Moran b.May 27,1859.,an Irish Catholic lady that he must have met at Church. This is what makes this side of my family interesting is the German Russett's were Catholic, not Lutheran as my earlier German family lines had been. Some early stories indicate that he moved to America when he was 9yr.
They married on Jan 17,1877-in Henry County. They had the 2 known following children:
John Russett b.March 22,1879 -Henry Co.
 Margaret Russett b.abt 1891 - Henry Co.
The family must have stayed in Henry Co.until sometime near 1880, Joseph  and Katherine ,and their son  John can be found on pg.272B of the 1880-Ohio,Putnam Co.,Palmer Twp. Census
Joseph -36yr    farmer-France (we know this is wrong)
Kate-21yr        keeps house -Ireland
John -1yr         Ohio

By the 1910-Ohio Census-Putnam Co.,Palmer Twp.
Joseph and Katherine had their son John, daughter Margaret and and daughter-in-law Mary living with them.
Jospeh      64yr-Germany(they got the counrty right this time)
Katherine(Kate)-49yr Ireland
John        32yr-Ohio
Mary (daughter -in-law) 21yr-Ohio
Maggie -daughter 19yr Ohio
This is the odd thing,John and Hattie(Mary) would have already had a child born June 9,1909-Defiance Co.I don't know why Helen Catherine isn't on the Census records.

*I am sending for all of the birth/death and marrige certificates of the above people to fill in the details.

Charles Russett b.1840, had lived with his family in the Defiance Co. area for at least 10-20 years.
I found the following info about him:
1880-Ohio Census-Defiance Co.-pg.65A
1910-Ohio Census-Defiance County-Enumeration Dist.0004
1920-Ohio Census-Defiance Twp.,Defiance Co.-Ward 1-Ed#4
South & West of B & O.R.R,: Roll:  T625_1376
I haven't found the name of his wife, but he had his 2 daughters living with him near the time of his death.
Anna J Russett-b.Nov 1,1871 and Matilda Francis Russett b.abt 1880
One of the girles was married to a man named ?Schmuken, becuase on the 1910 Census she was living with her father and not her husband.

Charles Russett died July 10,1922-his death cert.#100, when I get this copy  might find out where he is buried
His daughter Mathilda Franacis died  May 14,1909-death cert.#69-this might give me the name of Charles wife and where his daughter is buried.
Anna J died Dec 27,1931-buried in Riverside Cem.,Defiance Co-no headstone

Riverside Cemetery,Defiance Co.,Ohio

The other RUSSETT siblings:
There is very little information about the following siblings,Frank b.1836, Augustine b.1839, John b.1843 ,Klaus b.1848 and Louisa b.1852

What I have found and plan to keep searching.
Frank b.1836-no more info

Augustine b.1839-he maybe the Gustavous I have found Civil War records

John b.1843-I believe him to be the one I found on Putnam Co.,Ottwa records

Louisa b.1852-I recently wrote a letter to a lady that might be from her line of the family.

I don't know why this family seemed to disappear once they arrived from Wittenberg,Germany. The surname is unusual even if I try to search by soundex. What I fear has happened that their surname has been recorded as RUSSELL, and this will make it extremely hard to find info about these siblings if this is the case.
I had read a genforum post stating this fact about  her realative. The recorder forgot to cross the T's on RUSSETT, thus making it RUSSELL.. I can see the hunt will begin if so.

*Gustavous Russett-I will check again to see if this is actually Agustine.

*I am still checking to see if my ancestor Joseph served in the Civil War.He would have been 17yr to 18yr, however one son or more may have needed to stay home to help out on the farm to help.

The Russett boys saw plenty of Battles during the Civil War, their unit was one that fought at the Battle of Chicamauga,Ga. Their Comapny however must not have been caught becuase they did not end up in Andersonville Prison.
