The Sowards Mansion
139 Fourth Street
The Sowards Manson on the corner of Fourth Street and Scott Avenue was built by James Soward at the turn of the century. Mr. Sowards was sheriff during part of the Hatfield-McCoy feud. This Classical Revival residence is two story. It was formerly light colored brick with dark mortar, a mansard roof and a two story massive portico on the front facade, wrap around porch, with dentils in the porch and cornice and a slate roof. The porch has been removed and the brick painted a brownish tan.
