The United States Post Office
104 Huffman Avenue and Main Street
The WPA introduced a new building style to Pikeville with the construction of the Post Office and the Federal Courthouse. Built in 1931, the Post Office is a Classic Revival structure, with some Georgian Revival features, is the only building in the downtown with polychrome terra cotta detailing. The relief of an American Bald Eagle over the entrance and acanthus leaves in the capital of the columns are good examples of this kind of ornamentation. The building has Flemish bond brick, brick quoins, slate roof and a semicircular entrance.
