This is tin, marked on back "Crabtree hs mo" which I take as the Crabtree
house in Missouri. I would assum it must be the house Hyram and
Elizabeth lived in at some point as it came down through the March line
and I can see no reason for them passing on a photo of another Crabtree
house. The image may have been taken in the 1880s, maybe after it had
been long unoccupied by Crabtrees. You know, like we go and take a
photo of a place where our people used to live etc. The reason I say this
is because some parts of this house look too much 'modern' for pre-1870s.
The house looks 1880 or later to me.

Ben's Note:
I spoke by phone to Jerry Byrn that owns the old Crabtree Homestead
and tore down the old house. He pretty well described this house. I saw the
old house just before it was torn down around 1955. Being only 6 yrs old at
the time, the house looked bigger but very similar. Dad farmed the homestead
for about 3 years. At that time it was owned by Dr. Clarence May, being
passed down from his mother Emiline Maria (Crabtree) May. He was an
optometrist.
