Seeing Through Your Hand

Directions:

Roll a sheet of paper into a tube. Put one end of the tube to your right eye like a telescope. Hold your left hand, palm toward you, next to the tube, touching it. Focus your vision on the opposite side of the room with both your eyes open. It will seem as though you are looking through a hole in your hand! If you move your hand up and down, the "hole" in your hand moves.

Why does this happen? You think you are seeing through your hand because of binocular vision. The image of your hand in your left eye overlaps with what you are seeing with your right eye, creating the image of a hole in your hand!
