What little girl wouldn't be thrilled to carry Valentine treats to school in this pretty heart shaped box? And, best of all, she can bring her Valentine cards and treats home in it too!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Heart shaped cardboard box (available at craft stores) or 1-6.5 oz. NESTLÉ TURTLES Satin Heart Box
  • Red spray or acrylic paint
  • Foam paint brush
  • Decorative craft paper
  • Glue stick
  • Craft glue gun and glue sticks
  • Foam hearts
  • Paint pens
  • Silver pipe cleaners
  • Craft knife or safety scissors
  • SWEETARTS Hearts Treat Size Bags and SPREE Hearts Treat Size Bags
  • 1 - 4-inch strip of satin ribbon and 1 set of Velcro disks (For TURTLES Heart Box only)

HOW TO DO IT

  • Paint the box red inside and out using spray paint or acrylic paint and a foam brush.
  • When paint is dry, trace the bottom of the box onto a piece of decorative paper, two times.
  • Cut out the tracings and affix one to the back of the box and one to the inside of the box with a glue stick.
  • Decorate the lid with foam hearts.
  • On the lid of the box, write "Be Mine" or other message of your choice, with paint pen.
  • Use a craft knife or a pair of safety scissors to poke two holes in the top of the box for the handle.
  • Braid three pipe cleaners together and insert each end into the two holes to create a curved handle.
  • Fold pipe cleaners against the inside of the box and hot glue them into place.
  • If using TURTLES Heart box, glue one end of the satin ribbon to the top of the box in back. Hot glue one of the Velcro disks to the other end of the ribbon and the other Velcro disk to the top front of the heart box to create a clasp that holds the box together.
  • Fill box with SWEETARTS Hearts Treat Size Bags and SPREE Hearts Treat Size Bags

FOLLOW UP FUN

  • After Valentine's Day, replace message with your child's name or other decoration so the box can be used as a trinket box or carried as a fun purse. This can be done by gluing a piece of craft paper over the existing message.
All activities should be parent supervised. Parents, please make sure that the tools and items needed for a project are appropriate for your child.
