Mitten Needle Book
Games | Things to Do | Crafts
Parental supervision is recommended.
This project is EASY to do.
I made one of these for my mother when I was a child. She still has the
needle book in her sewing kit. My grandchild has now made one for her mother. So
you can see that is project has been around a long time and is one that any
person will cherish.
What You Need
- Felt in any color
- White Muslin (other fabrics may to heavy to allow needles to be inserted
easily)
- Patterns (see below)
- Felt marker
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Pinking Shears
- Glue
- Stickers, glitter, glitter paint, ribbon, etc.
- Straight pins
- Sewing Machine (can be sewn by hand)
- Matching thread
How To Make It
- Print out the Mitten pattern for
the cover.
- Print out the Mitten pattern for
the inside.
- Cut out the patterns.
- Use the marker to trace around the patterns on the felt. This is the large
pattern.
- Use a pencil to trace around the pattern on the muslin.
- Cut out one piece of felt with the scissors.
- Cut out one to three pieces of muslin with pinking shears.
- Layer the muslin on top of the felt so that you have an even border on all
sides.
- Pin the inside pieces to the cove to hold them in place.
- Stitch down the center fold line to secure the muslin to the felt.
- Let the child decorate their mitten with stickers, glue & glitter,
tiny ribbon bows, etc.
- Help the child wrap it up and give it as a gift!
Note:
You may put more than one layer of the muslin inside the book if you would
like. An adult may want to sew the muslin to the felt. If you do not have
pinking shear then you may cut the muslin with scissors.
