WHAT YOU NEED
From the cake decorating, candy-making, or gourmet cooking store:
- Heart shaped mini cake pan (6 hearts per pan)
EVERYTHING ELSE YOU'LL NEED
- Granulated sugar
- Eggs
- Store-bought icing tubes (if desired)
- Mini Chewy SWEETARTS, SWEETARTS Hearts, Mini Chewy SPREE and SPREE
Hearts
- Craft glue or craft glue gun and glue sticks
HOW TO DO IT
(makes 3 Heart Candy Dishes – 3 tops and 3 bottoms)
- In a bowl, combine 3 cups granulated sugar and 1 egg white. Rub
with hands until thoroughly mixed.
- Pack sugar mixture firmly into heart molds.
- Scrape tops level with spatula, returning extra sugar to bowl.
- With a spoon, gently scoop sugar mixture from the center of each
heart, to make a shell 1/2 to 5/8 inch thick.
- Invert a baking sheet over hearts. Holding on two sides, invert
again and tap each heart gently before carefully lifting heart pan
off. If any hearts break, wash and dry heart pan, then fill again,
reusing sugar mixture.
- Set sugar hearts in warm place and allow to dry at least two hours
and preferably overnight.
- Using craft glue or a glue gun, adhere desired candy to the
outside of the top and bottom of the sugar heart.
- Decorate candies with icing tubes, if desired.
- Fill the bottom heart with SWEETARTS Hearts, Mini Chew SWEETARTS,
SPREE Hearts and Mini Chewy SPREE.
- Cover with decorated sugar heart top.
LITTLE KITCHEN HELPER HINTS
- Younger children might like to participate by helping to mix the
sugar and egg whites with their hands.
- Let them sample a few candies, but don't let them lick their
fingers since the egg whites are not cooked.
All activities should be
parent supervised. Parents, please make sure that the tools and items
needed for a project are appropriate for your child.
