Before going on a trip, get a small bound notebook to use as a travel journal for your children. The first page you can put a brief overview of their adventure. Then, every day of the trip, add something new to the journal.

On the first page, have your child answer these questions:

Along with this brief summary of your daily events, you can paste in any ticket stubs from museums, parks, or other attractions. Leave room to add photographs and captions.

When the trip is over, have them make a list of the top five things that they did on their vacation.

Suggest that your children make a journal for each of their vacations. As they get older, they can go back and relive the memories of the trip -- instead of just saying, "I went there once with my grandparents."
