Marital Status: This girl is really strange and gives nothing away. However, in the later episodes, Rei makes progress on her emotional incapabilities. "It's like you to care for others" Touji Suzuhara says to Rei. And this is true. But, Rei does feel something towards Shinji, but it is only subtle. Her unlikely words of thank you to Shinji brings a war on thoughts in Rei as she had never used such words to anyone. But we really see how Rei truly feels towards Shinji as she sacrifices her own life to save him from the 16th Angel. Yet, throughout the whole movie, Rei is bonded and somehow attracted to Shinji's father, Gendo Ikari. The reasons behind this are shocking! But, she is very single.

Personality: The soul reason behind Rei's inability to think and feel like a normal human being is because she is a clone on Shinji's mother, Yui Ikari. This is the reason why she feels bizarrely attracted to Gendo and why she can only open herself slightly to Shinji and no one else. Her subtle affection for Shinji is most likely from her motherly genes (she is the mother of Shinji, a clone of her anyway). It also explains her lack of respect for her own existence, knowing the fact she is not an actual human being but a mere copy of one would be kind of worrying. Although she may be a clone and pretty cold person at times.
