Touma says: "The first words that come to mind when someone mentions Shuu Rei Fuan to me are party animal, which is pretty much how he wants it to be. Shuu is... boisterous, even loud, at times, and can be quite exuberant as well. No matter where he is, he's there to have fun, and woe unto anyone who tries to stop him! Shin Mouri is probably his best friend in the world, so Shin is usually the one he ropes into whatever scheme or plot he's up to. Shuu tends to think big, and has a habit of over-reacting to things, but deep inside, he's got a heart of solid gold. His idols are Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, and he has every intention of becoming a martial arts movie star when he grows up. Shuu's also the toughest member of our group - built like a tank, and about as easy to stop, when somebody needs his help! His parents are both experts at kung-fu, and Shuu's been trained in the art since he was a child. He lives in the Chinatown of Yokohama, and he's the only one of the Samurai Troopers who's not of Japanese descent. His family runs a wide chain of Chinese restaurants, with branches as far away as New York City, in America. I suppose growing up in restaurants and having to share with four other siblings might explain why Shuu is obsessed with food now - he's always hungry!"

The armour of Kongo is Shuu's yoroi, and it draws its power from the element of earth. So long as he's in contact with the ground, Shuu is all but unstoppable - in addition to being incredibly strong, he has the power to create earthquakes. Physically, the Samurai Trooper of Kongo is almost impossible to beat, wielding as his main weapon a tetsubo - a bo staff made of solid iron, and tipped with a naginata blade. He can also break the staff into a three-jointed weapon called a Tsa Jat Koen. However, Shuu is not the strongest Trooper mentally, easily confused and often tricked by illusions. He also has a temper, and has been known to react violently when unsure what is going on.

Shuu is the Samurai Trooper of justice, and fair play. His armour of Kongo is one of the most powerful yoroi, as it is nearly always in contact with the element from which it draws power. The Masho Rajura once implied that Kongo is also the most bloodthirsty of the nine armours, and the one best constructed for battle.

Shuu Rei Fuan's japanese voice actor, or seiyuu, was Tomohiro Nishimura. Nishimura is also known for his roles in other popular anime, such as Yang Noiman in Macross Plus, Gigiru in Macross 7, Hess in Saber Marionette J and Saber Marionette J Again, Kotatsu Neko in Urusei Yatsura, Yajin Ysuya in Iczer-3, and Kusumoto in Tokyo Vice.

In the Ronin Warriors dub, "Kento" is voiced by Jason Gray-Stanford.. Jason is known for his roles as Raditz in Dragon Ball Z, Haruhiko in Please Save My Earth, Yusaku Godai in Maison Ikkoku, Donatello in Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, and Joe Higashi in Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 2, and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, He also provided provided the english voice for Gashura.
