Activeconnection.fi

wpe3D.jpg (5295 bytes)Activeconnection.fi is an entirely Flash based Web site used to provide basic information about the company's product and advertise employment opportunities.   The idea behind the site was to position the company as a high-tech leader in the mobile area.

Inc. Magazine Design Contest WinnerDavid Winegar's entry

Inc. Magazine sponsored a Web site redesign contest for a small business, Crystal Cleen Carpets.  The challenge was to take their old site and improve it.  Out of more than 50 entries, my design was chosen as 3rd best by the editors.  Read the article and critique here.

Personal Travel Site

trip_main_new2.jpg (50751 bytes)A personal travel site highlighting my travels  in Asia.  I have implemented a number of new design techniques and HTML features in this site to showcase some of my abilities (note: I have had time to only complete the photo sections for Bali and Nepal).  You can view this site at https://members.tripod.com/davidwin/.

Atevo Travel
Logo.gif (2248 bytes)Atevo is a full service Silicone Valley travel web site with everything you need to investigate, plan and book your vacation. Built entirely in Vignette's StoryServer, the site is an advanced example of a Web based business.

I was responsible for a wide variety of tasks at Atevo as part of the original four member start-up team that created the business. My functions included design, management, promotion, and marketing of the site. I was also responsible for all of the original content production from March of 1997 to August of 1997. I produced a daily travel destination feature, monthly "Travel Focus," a weekly travel newsletter (emailed out via Netscape's InBox Direct program), and weekly travel news.

The site has received a top 5% award from Lycos, and was very favorably reviewed in a travel site comparison article in the January 1998 issue of PC Magazine.

Travel Corner
Tclogonew.gif (7387 bytes)Travel Corner was Weissmann Travel Reports first web site. The site was an extension of their very successful America Online site and was designed as a Travel Zine to showcase the travels and writings of their editorial staff. It was originally a monthly Zine, and operated as such for one year, but has since been discontinued as a monthly publication and now just contains "The best of" articles from past sites. The link here is to the site as I originally designed it and as it went live.

My role in TravelCorner was to develop the concept for the site and oversee all aspects of the creation and management of the site. I created all the graphics and did all the coding.

Travel Corner rated a very high overall 95 on the Lycos top 5%.

TripLinks
arnie11.gif (8360 bytes)TripLinks was a prototype site I did for Weissmann Travel Reports. Weissmann used it as a showcase site for potential partners and companies interested in investing in the company. Unfortunately the site was never released to the public. It was, however, instrumental in helping them to secure several new partners and in helping to position themselves as a new media company. In late 1997, Weissmann was purchased by the Reed Travel Group, in large part due to their demonstrated Web potential.

I created all the graphics and did all the coding. The original site had several Java applets built into it which made it much more interactive, but due to space limitations on this site, I have had to remove them.

America Online:

Travel Corner
Aolmain.GIF (63322 bytes)As part of my duties at Weissmann Travel Reports I was responsible for redesigning their America Online site called Travel Corner. Weissmann was one of the original information providers in the travel area on America Online and needed desperately a new look and feel for their site. I completely reworked their graphics and gave them an updated, "Web like" look.

Travel Corner was voted in 1996 by PC Magazine as one of the top 100 places online to hang out.

The jump key word on America Online is "travelcorner." You may also view the screen designs by clicking on the link above.
