FACULTY POSITION : GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
Position: Assistant Professor
Deadline: 30 September 2001
Applications are invited from qualified persons for the faculty position at the
rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The suitable candidate will be appointed
initially for a period of two years, with a possibility of extension.
The Gender and Development Studies (GenDev), located in Rural Development,
Gender and Resources Program, School of Environment, Resources and Development
offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. GenDev conducts teaching, research and outreach
on socio-economic, cultural, technological and environmental aspects of gender,
development and technology. Within the overall framework of gender, technology
and development studies, the selected candidate is expected to contribute to
several of the following areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
? Teach a minimum of three one-term courses a year.
? Advise students in their course work and research
? Conduct own research and publish research results
? May be involved in the editing of Gender, Technology and Development Journal
? Promote links with and support to other gender-related programs in the region.
? Participate in the management and administration of the Field of Study and
Program
? Mainstream gender and development perspective into other academic programs in
the Institute
? Raise research and outreach funds
Areas of Specialization
The Gender and Development Studies emphasizes equitable and sustainable
development through equal participation of women in all spheres and levels of
political, economic and social life. The Assistant Professor is expected to
teach, advise, and conduct research in the area of gender, technology and
development, but focusing especially on one or more of the following areas
? Industrialization, division of labor, and development
economics
? Violence against women and children
? New technologies, especially information communication technology
Qualifications
? Ph.D. degree in the field relevant to areas of specialization
? Strong publication record in the field of gender and development demonstrating
an Asian perspective.
? Teaching experience preferably in the post graduate level
? Fluency in written and spoken English
? Experience in fund/research grant raising is an advantage
The successful applicant will receive a salary that is highly competitive in the

of the employment period.
