Forum Manager

Association for Women's Rights in Development

The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) is a dynamic international membership organization that connects, informs and mobilizes people and organizations committed to achieving gender equality, just and sustainable development and women's human rights. AWID's goal is to cause policy, institutional and individual change that will improve the lives of women and girls everywhere.

One of AWID's most important activities is its International Forum. Hosted every two to three years since 1982, this event has become the largest recurring conference on gender and development and women's human rights in North America. The Eighth International Forum, Leading Solutions for Equality and Justice, held over four days in November 1999 in Washington D.C. hosted more than 1,300 women and men from over 100 countries. Activities at the Forum ranged from thought-provoking debates to practical skills-building sessions, from a market place offering the latest resources to coffeehouses for young women.

Our next International Forum - our ninth - will likely be held in Mexico in September, 2002 marking our first Forum outside of Washington, DC. We are currently seeking to hire a Forum Manager who will be responsible for the coordination of this major event. This is a fixed-term position running from April 2001 through December 2002, based at AWID's Secretariat in Toronto, Canada. The annual salary range is CDN$45,000 to CDN $60,000, plus benefits, depending on experience.
