The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) is an international non – profit organization headquartered in New Delhi. Its objectives are to promote the practical realization of human rights in the Commonwealth. CHRI educates on human rights issues and advocates for greater adherence to human rights standards.
The Police Unit at CHRI seeks self-motivated persons for the following positions:
· Senior Research Officer
The Senior Research Officer will be required to research on issues related to policing and advocate for police reform in India and the Commonwealth. The candidate will be expected to design and implement the programme and ensure its future expansion; undertake primary and secondary research; design and organize workshops and conduct training programmes and legal literacy campaigns. He/ she will also be expected to write articles and develop suitable materials and publications as may be required from time to time.
The candidate must hold at least a Master’s degree in Social Sciences (preferably Criminology) or Law, and should be well versed with the functioning of the police organization, its problems and laws related to policing. Relevant work experience is essential and previous research experience in policing and related issues will be an asset. Candidates should be computer literate and have very strong research, analysis and organizational skills and must have exceptional writing skills in English.
· Project Officer
The candidate will be required to assist and work in coordination with the Senior Research Officer. He/ she will collect and analyse literature on prison reform, conduct research, write articles and help organise workshops. The Research Assistant will also be expected to undertake additional independent tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
Candidates must hold a degree in law or a related discipline, with some work experience in the field of criminal justice or human rights. They should be computer literate and have strong research, analysis and organizational skills and must have good writing skills in English.
All candidates must be willing to travel extensively and conduct field research on policing. They must be flexible in order to respond to emerging demands of the organization. Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience and is not a limiting factor the right candidate. Only those with a strong commitment to the area of human rights and social justice need apply.
