Communications Manager, South Asia
Compensation: International Partner
Location: New Delhi, India
Posting period 3/13/01 – 6/8/01*
Reporting to the South Asia Regional Director, this position is responsible for the leadership of the communications department of the South Asia region. Supports the development of resources and spreads the news of Habitat’s work in the region to internal and external audiences. Develops ways to enhance the recognition and visibility of HFHI through publicity campaigns, media events and resource development and awareness raising tools. Advise, support and train national offices in the creation of tools enhancing HFHI’s identity and institutional image. Coordinate with Area Communications staff to ensure clarity, coherency and consistency in published pieces. Write and compile contributions for internal and external publications. Liaise with advertising and public relations agencies, media and other vendors to ensure tight promotional budget controls. Develop a resource base of communications materials and data that can be used for national marketing and program enhancement efforts.
Requirements: Bachelors degree or equivalent; 10 to 15 years experience writing for the press or managing communication strategy; exposure to international community development work; flexibility and adaptability; cross-cultural management skills; organization and team-building skills; knowledge of word processing, database, spreadsheet software, pre-press software and web based communications; research, writing, editing and graphic presentation skills; knowledge of and the ability to work with national and international news media; ability to train others in media/marketing skills.
Habitat for Humanity International is seeking qualified candidates who are committed to Habitat for Humanity's work of providing families with simple, decent shelter. Applicants for International Partner (IP) and Field Staff positions must be able to make a three-year commitment to Habitat’s work abroad and positions in most countries require a willingness to communicate and affirm the Christian roots and principles of Habitat for Humanity.
IPs and Field Staff provide expertise to grass-roots, national or area-wide programs. Therefore, demonstrated experience in group facilitation and leadership; the ability to work with minimal direct supervision; flexibility; problem solving skills; international experience; language skills and the ability to live in another culture are factors in the selection process. Although qualifications may be minimal for some positions, a match between program needs and an individual’s experience determines selection.
Compensation for Field Staff positions includes a monthly salary, housing, health insurance, dependent allowance, re-entry escrow, pension, an education allowance for dependent children and other benefits. Field staff salaries are modest by U.S. standards but provide a comfortable standard of living appropriate to the host country.
International Partner compensation includes a monthly living allowance of $425 for the first year and $525 a month for the second and third years.
Housing, health insurance, dependent allowance, re-entry escrow, pension and an education allowance for dependent children are also provided. Cost of living adjustments are provided as appropriate.
