JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Editor/journalist
DEPARTMENT: Head Office
RESPONSIBLE TO: Communications Co-ordinator
JOB PURPOSE: To support the implementation and development of CI’s press and publications strategy.
SALARY: £22,417 p.a. pro rata
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Fixed term for 6 months, three days a week
MAIN DUTIES:
The main task will be to provide editorial and journalistic skills to CI’s London Office:
? Write and/or edit CIs Head
Office/ODTE publications (e.g. policy briefing papers, training manuals,
corporate publications, research reports)
? Write articles/editorials
for major news organisations/CI web site/CI publications (e.g. policy briefing
papers, fact sheets, training materials, etc.)
? Provide editorial advice
and support for CI’s website
? Compile internal newsflash
? Prepare CI London office
press releases
? Organise and support contacting
the media and arranging interviews.
ESSENTIAL PROFILE AND EXPERIENCE:
? Proven track record in
editing, journalism and writing press releases
? Good writing skills
? Some knowledge of major
international issues
? Interest in consumer or
development issues
? Ability to work in a multicultural
environment with people based in offices all over the world.
? Ability to be self-motivated
and creative in approach to projects.
? Ability to travel occasionally
to other countries.
? Computer literate with
skills in MS office.
Desired profile and experience
? Experience of working in
an international non-governmental organisation
? Knowledge and experience
of consumer issues and consumer policy
? Knowledge and experience
of development issues
? Experience of working
in a developing country or in Central and Eastern Europe
? Ability to speak at least
one other language – preferably Spanish or French
? Experience of dealing
with the media
