Programme Director and Project Co-ordinator

European Centre for War, Peace and the News Media
(ECWPNM) is a London based charitable organisation specialising in diversity
training for media and capacity building for minority NGOs. Through its main
programme, Reporting Diversity Network (RDN) the Centre brings together news
organisations, media assistance centres, journalism schools and NGOs. Together
they work to mobilise the power of the news media in support of a deeper public
understanding of diversity, minority communities, inter-group conflict, and
human rights.
ECWPNM is looking to fill two full-time positions: Programme Director and
Project Co-ordinator.
Programme Director will report directly to Centre Director and his/her
duties will include:
... overseeing and managing all current projects;
... developing and implementing new projects;
... strategy development;
... project evaluation;
... fundraising;
... liasing with RDN member organisations;
... promoting ECWPNM and RDN activities;
... overseeing development of program materials, workshop agendas, and training
protocol.
Skills required:
... background in media and media training
... a knowledge of diversity issues and media and ethnic conflict;
... a knowledge of global media issues
... managerial competence
... capacity to think critically about journalism
... knowledge, experience and contacts in CEE countries; and
... fluency in English and at least one other language;
The ideal candidate will have at least 5-10 years experience. Truly superior
writing, strategy development, and communication skills are essential, as are
creativity, leadership, and strong administrative abilities. Starting salary is
£30,500 with four week paid holidays.
Project Co-ordinator will report directly to Programme Director and
his/her duties will include:
... planning, implementing and evaluating project activities;
... organising seminars, conferences, workshops, publication and other
activities in co-operation with local partners.
... promotion of ECWPNM and RDN activities, and outreach to journalists and
experts;
... database management;
... project accounting in co-ordination with ECWPNM administrative staff;
... participation in project and strategy development, and in fundraising; and
... participation in development of program materials, workshop agendas, and
training protocol.
Skills required:
... background in media;
... a knowledge of diversity issues and media and ethnic conflict;
... an understanding of the NGO
... organisational skills;
... capacity to think critically about journalism;
... knowledge, experience and contacts in CEE countries; and
... fluency in English and at least one other language, preferably a CEE
language.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years experience. Good writing,
organisational, and communication skills are essential, as are creativity, and
administrative abilities. Starting salary is £19,300 with four week paid
holiday.
