Vacancies at ICIMOD - 2001
ICIMOD is an independent organisation governed by a Board of Governors and
funded by some 15 countries and donor organisations. Its mandatory activities
are (i) Documentation and Information Exchange, (ii) Research, (iii) Training,
and (iv) Advisory Services. Activities are implemented in close collaboration
with partner institutions in the regional member countries.
The Centre has five core thematic programmes.
1. Sustainable Livelihoods for Mountain Household
2. Gender Balanced Mountain Development
3. Sustainable Development of Mountain Commons
4. Capacity Building of Mountain Development Organisations
5. Information and Outreach
The Centre presently has 20 internationally recruited professional staff and 19
national professional staff. The staff are members of various activity and
project teams, and are currently organised in seven work divisions, for
administrative purposes. During the first quarter of 2001, the Centre intends to
fill in the following positions.

1.Senior Agriculture Specialist
Type/level : International Recruitment - Level 'P'
Specific Requirements : 8 years' experience in farming systems' research;
demonstrated managerial competence and a capacity for intellectual leadership.
2.Senior Gender Specialist
Type/level : International Recruitment - Level 'P'
Specific Requirements : 6 years' experience in gender & social issues'
research; demonstrated managerial competence and a capacity for intellectual
leadership.
3.Planning Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist
Type/level : Local Recruitment - Level 'NO'
Specific Requirements : 6 years' experience in PRA and M & E activities.
4.Water Resources Specialist
Type/level : Local Recruitment - Level 'NO'
Specific Requirements : 5 years' experience in integrated water resource
management, hydrology or in a related field.
5.Coordinator, Research Programme on Equity and Poverty in the Management
of Common Property Resources in the Hindu Kush-Himalayas
Type/level : Local Recruitment - Level 'NO'
Specific Requirements : 3 years' experience in gender and social issues.
6. Coordinator, International Year of Mountains
Type/level : Local Recruitment - Level 'NO'
Specific Requirements : 5 years' experience in conference coordination,
communications, journalism, or advocacy.
7.Mountain Forum - Asia Pacific Coordinator
Type/level : Local Recruitment - Level 'GS'
Specific Requirements : 5 years' experience in communications. A knowledge
of electronic networking and familiarity with mountain areas.
Requirements for all these positions:
1. Post graduate degree; a Ph.D. in related field, for senior positions.
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally in English and,
preferably, a regional language.
3. Ability to prepare project proposals, progress reports, etc; skill in project
planning, negotiation and assessment
4. Record of publications in related subjects
5. Experience in managing/working with multidisciplinary teams, particularly
with international/regional agencies; part of the work experience should
preferably have been gained in the HKH region
6. Computer and Internet literate with knowledge of specific technical
programmes
7. Demonstrated commitment to mountain peoples and environment
8. Physically fit to undertake frequent travel to remote and difficult
mountainous regions.
