OVERSEAS
STAFF VACANCIES
Merlin
is currently working in East DRC in Maniema Province.
Merlin is also due to start a programme in Kasai-Oriental in September.
Our programme in Maniema focuses on improving the prevention and
treatment of the top five causes of disease and death including Malaria by
training local health staff and providing hospitals and health centres with
drugs and equipment needed.
Our new programme in Kasai will focus mainly on the delivery of primary
healthcare. Good working knowledge of French is essential.
To
co-ordinate Merlin’s maternal and child health activities in Kasai. To provide
training to local midwives, to prepare guidelines and protocols, assess and
evaluate community participation.
Previous field experience would be an advantage, as would a working
knowledge of French.
Malaria
Project Supervisor - Sierra Leone - Start Date: Feb 2001 - (6 months)
To
develop a strategy for Malaria control which will include organisation of
prevalence surveys, provision of training, implementation of bednet distribution
and spraying programmes.
Position requiring report writing and communications skills.
Previous experience of Malaria control programmes, management and
training are essential.
Paediatrician
- Sierra Leone - Start Date: 2001 - (6-12 months)
To
assist with management of the paediatric ward at Kenema Government Hospital.
Merlin’s aims is to build local capacity - ward management, quality
control, evaluation, monitoring of performance, development of strong research
based practice – while adhering to protocols and standardised management
systems. Previous
overseas experience and good knowledge of tropical diseases is essential.
Programme
Co-ordinator - East DRC - Start Date: Feb 2001 - (8 months)
To
implement and manage Merlin’s curative and preventive health care projects in
Kasai Oriental.
Previous field experience within the humanitarian sector, project
management, financial and logistical experience and fluency in French are
essential.
Financial
Controller - East DRC - Start Date: Feb 2001 - (6 months+)
To
implement financial controls, manage donor funding and project budgets.
Previous experience of working for an NGO (HQ or field) is desirable.
Financial qualifications (Accounts Technician Level 2-3, CIMA or
equivalent), advanced computer skills (Excel and Word) and fluency in French are
essential.
Senior
Logistician / Administrator - East DRC - Start Date: Feb 2001 - (6 months)
To
co-ordinate all administrative and logistical functions of Merlin’s Maniema
and Kasai projects aiming to improve the quality of basic curative and
preventive disease.
Experience as logistician within the humanitarian sector, in project
administration, budget monitoring and fluency in French are essential.
Development
Programme Co-ordinator - Kenya - Start Date: Feb 01 - (28 months)
To-co-ordinate
Merlin’s Malaria Control and Health Service and community capacity building
programme in Kisii and Gucha districts in Nyanza province.
Previous fieldwork and management experience of community health
development projects, particularly in the field of malaria is essential.
As well as experience in community mobilisation, capacity building,
health education and training.
Programme
Co-ordinator - Siberia - Start Date: Feb 2001 - (12 months)
To
co-ordinate and supervise the implementation of Merlin’s TB programme and
training in Tomsk Oblask, Western Siberia.
Proven managerial experience, good communication skills, both oral and
written, computer skills (Word, Excel and e-mails) and overseas experience are
essential.
HR
Manager – London – Start Date: Feb 2001 – Salary: £ 25,000
The
post holder will work to maintain the quality of delivery of recruitment and
selection, training and performance management.
Merlin’s HR Manager maintains daily contact with the Chief Executive
and managers, devise and implement new employment policies and guidelines for
both HQ and overseas staff.
Position requiring at least three years’ experience in HR and
departmental or team management.
CIPD qualification is essential and working experience in the voluntary
sector is desirable.
The
post holder will work closely with Merlin’s core and field staff.
She/he will be responsible for ensuring high financial and administrative
control of Merlin's field activities and will be a key contact providing
information about donor contract compliance.
Responsibilities:
To
provide strategic financial direction and prepare annual and five-year plans.
To
provide financial advice to the CEO and Finance Sub-Committee of the Trustees.
Work
with field officers, develop and improve field finance system.
To
provide training and support to field staff in financial management,
administration and logistics.
Requirements:
Minimum
3 years finance or accounting experience with at least a year overseas
experience
CIMA/ACCA
qualification or overseas equivalent.
Experience
in training (formal or informal) and familiarity with institutional donor
reporting requirements.
To
ensure medical training of Merlin’s field staff in Public Health and Nutrition
in Relief and Emergencies.
The post holder will work as a team with the Project Support and
Financial Training Officer, HR Manager, other departments and organisations.
A RNG or other relevant qualification with at least 18 months of
experience in the humanitarian health sector is essential.
This
post is essential in ensuring the efficient operation of the London Office by
thorough management of supplies and service contracts and office administration.
Responsibilities:
Management
of contracts and their negotiation e.g. lease building maintenance, utilities
and so on.
Procurement
of general services e.g. cleaning, mail, stationery and office equipment.
Maintenance
of central administrative processes (reception, library, mail handling and
office internal information.
Provision
of administrative management services in support of trustees, Merlin’s board,
Head of Finance and Chief Executive.
Requirements:
Previous
experience of office administration procedures and systems
Good
working knowledge of Word and Excel and typing skills (60wpm).
