Political Party Advisor – KENYA

NDI
seeks a talented, experienced individual to lead at least a five-month political
party assistance program in Nairobi, Kenya. To be considered for this position, applicants must have significant
experience working with political parties at the local, state or national level.
Qualified individuals with an interest in international affairs,
democratic development and/or African politics and culture, as well as
applicants with teaching or training experience, are encouraged to apply.
Job Description:
The political party advisor will serve in Nairobi, Kenya, as NDI's Chief of Party for a program to strengthen the internal organizational and structural capacity of political parties. Locally hired program staff will support the political party advisor. The advisor's primary responsibilities will be to organize and implement activities for political party leaders and representatives on such key topics as the message/platform development, communication and outreach, and fundraising and recruitment. S/he will also serve as a resource to political party leaders in response to their specific questions and requests for assistance.
In addition, the political party advisor will serve as NDI's principal liaison with the donor community, local NGOs, political leaders and the U.S. Embassy. Responsibilities will include both programmatic and managerial duties, and s/he will report to the Institute's Washington headquarters and work with D.C.-based program staff in managing the administrative, financial, logistical and programmatic aspects of the program.
Primary
Responsibilities:

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with political party
leaders and their representatives in parliament, NGOs, government officials and
members of the international community.
·
Implement NDI’s political party assistance program in collaboration
with in-country field staff and pro-bono trainers.
Coordinate and oversee local and expatriate staff in the implementation
of program activities.
·
Serve as the principal liaison between NDI and international donor
representatives in country.
·
Conduct ongoing evaluations of the program and coordinate the writing of
periodic, comprehensive reports on the program, as specified by the funding
agency.

Oversee the in-country budget and the submission of a monthly financial
reconciliation to the Washington office.
This
position is an overseas posting in Nairobi, Kenya.
For the selected political party advisor, NDI will cover the cost of
transportation to and from the posting, as well as housing, local travel and all
other business-related expenses. NDI

Qualifications
·
Significant experience with political parties at the local, state or
national level.
·
Project development and management experience.
·
Appropriate educational experience, preferably a graduate degree in law,
public policy or related field.
·
Ability to communicate skills and experience to others as a trainer,
advisor and consultant.
·
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, as well as the ability to
manage professional political relationships.
·
Experience with conference/seminar organizing and facilitation.
·
Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and e-mail technology.
·
Experience in living and working overseas, preferably in the developing
world.
