Health Planning Adviser

Papua New Guinea HEALTH SERVICES SUPPORT PROGRAM (HSSP)

The PNG HSSP is funded by the Australian Government and is managed by a Consortium of IDP Education Australia, GRM International Pty Ltd and Jane Thomason and Associates.

This long term Program aims to improve the health of the population of PNG.  While some Program activities will be nation-wide, there will be an initial intensive focus on six provinces of Western, Gulf, Central, Western Highlands, Morobe and Sandaun.  A multi-disciplinary team of qualified and experienced professionals is needed to work with the PNG Department of Health, Provincial and District Governments to implement this Program.

At present we are seeking applicants for the position of Health Planning Adviser, a long term (17 month) position based in Port Moresby.

The successful candidate will have post graduate qualifications in health planning or a related field, and demonstrated experience in health planning issues, as well as in training and capacity building, in developing countries. 

They would be expected to demonstrate strong analytical abilities, an ability to think laterally, and solid interpersonal, report writing and communication skills.

  Applicants should display sensitivity to a cross-cultural environment and a comprehensive understanding of gender issues and Gender and Development (GAD) strategies, and their impact on service delivery and rural communities.

  The must be a willingness to undertake Provincial travel, sometimes under difficult circumstances.

Terms of Reference:

§           Assist NDOH and provinces to develop provincial level strategic and annual activity  plans.

§           Provide ongoing training to a core set of trainers to assist Provinces to develop strategic and annual activity  plans.

§           Prepare training materials for training Provincial and District Health Managers in activity planning and performance monitoring.

§           Provide ongoing training to Program provinces to assist them to prepare their 2002 activity plans

§           Prepare progress reports as required for Deputy Team Leader.
