Assistance (STTA) in the Caribbean. To

The Pesticides Control Authority (PCA) regulates the manufacture, sale, use and disposal of pesticides in Jamaica. Its mission, in collaboration with other relevant agencies, is to reduce the adverse effects of pesticides on food, the environment and public health by improving pesticide management in Jamaica. They regulate a range of manufacturers, distributors and retailers, primarily in agribusiness, to license facilities, register products, and issue import licenses.
STTA will identify better approaches to enforcement and administration, foster industry/PCA consensus on the application of international standards, and identify practical industry approaches to compliance. Specific tasks include 1) Identifying problem areas that either unduly delay or complicate regulatory approvals or foster avoidance in the pesticide industry; 2) Analyzing current pesticide industry compliance practices, PCA regulatory procedures and gaps in local or regional technical resources; 3) Developing a workshop(s) or other forum at which industry and PCA representatives can review regulatory objectives and practices, and jointly develop practical means of implementing improvements; and 4) Formulating practical recommendations that PCA can adopt to improve their administration or modify their regulations that will result in more effective operations and assist industry compliance.
Successful
candidates will have at least 10 years of professional experience in production,
testing, or quality control of pesticide manufacturing and distribution and/or
government regulation.
