For the Danish Assistance to the :
National Programme for Control of Blindness (DANPCB)

Danida has been assisting the National Programme for Control of Blindness since 1978. Currently, in its third phase (1997-2002), DANPCB's objective is to achieve maximum possible reduction in the number of people with visual impairment and blindness, with special emphasis on women and rural poor.

DANPCB also has a focus on internalizing the technical assistance provided by the Danida Support Unit (DSU) and sustaining the benefits achieved so far. The technical assistance is provided both, at the national level and at the State/district level, more specifically in Karmataka. The DSU in Delhi is headed by an expatriate Chief Adviser. S/he is assisted by local Indian Advisers. The DSU reports to the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi. The two positions of local advisers are as follows :

Adviser (Public Health) :
S/he will provide assistance in strategy formulation, plan of implementation, management information system, building capacities and improving quality and coverage. S/he will be responsible for project/process monitoring, report writing and liaising with Governments and donor NGOs.

Qualifications and Experience :
Doctorate or postgraduate degree in health sciences with 10 years. experience in public health. Previous experience of project management or working with donor agency is desirable.

Adviser (Social Sciences) :
S/he will assist in designing IEC strategy framework; initiating, commissioning and supervising operational research and its dissemination; involving non-programme personnel, NGOs and Panchayati Raj Institutions and main streaming poverty and gender aspects in the programme. S/he will be responsible for project/process monitoring, report writing and liaising with Governments and donor NGOs.

Qualifications and Experience :
Doctorate or postgraduate degree in social sciences with 10 years. experience in health related projects. Experience in operational research is essential. Previous experience of working with donor agency is desirable.

For both positions :
Ideal candidates will be 35 years to 50 years of age. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and across status boundaries. Fluency in English and working knowledge of computers is essential.

Reporting, Place of Posting and Travel :
Both positions are based at Delhi, with frequent travel to project areas in Karnataka.

For day to day administration, both positions report to the Chief Adviser, Danida Support Unit, New Delhi.

Remuneration and Contract Period :
Both the positions are senior positions and remuneration will be as per Danida rules for Local Advisers, in the range of Rs. 5-6 lakhs per annum. Successful candidates will be offered a two year contract which, thereafter, may be renewed.
