LOBBY AND NETWORK OFFICER
WIDE (Network Women in Development Europe)

The Network Women in
Development Europe (WIDE) is looking for a dynamic network developer with
lobbying experience to support its mission: to influence European and
international policies and raise awareness of gender and development/trade
issues.
WIDE’s
priorities:
- Integration
of gender analysis into the policy debates of European institutions and EU
Member States’ governments, with a specific focus on their position on
development cooperation and trade policies.
- Integration
of a global view on South/North relations in the policy debates of European
institutions and the EU Member States’ governments.
- Contribution
to the rethinking of economics from a gender, feminist, European and
development perspective, in collaboration with relevant networks.
- Strengthening
WIDE’s national platforms and cooperation with individuals, other
non-governmental development and women’s organisations and networks,
including women from Southern regions living in Europe and Central and
Eastern European networks.
This
is a part-time post (70%). It is hoped that the appointed candidate could start
in March 2001. The Lobby and Network Officer is a key member of the team at the
WIDE Coordination office, which also includes: the Senior Administrator,
Information Officer and Project Coordinator.
TASKS
- Representing
WIDE in high-level meetings to the European Parliament (Women’s Rights
Commission, Commission for Development Cooperation) and the European
Commission (link with gender desks) and to EU lobbying meetings of NGDOs;
coordinating of briefings and policy papers, linking up with other
organisations.
- Act
as WIDE’s representative.
- Strengthening
the recruitment process of new members to the network.
- Public
relations work.
- Keeping
regular contact with steering group members and national platforms.
- Co-ordinate
the WIDE global working group on gender and trade.
- Follow
up of EU development and trade policies under a gender perspective.
PROFILE OF APPLICANTS
- You
have experience of working for a non-governmental organisation or network
especially in the area of development and gender issues.
- You
have at least five years of professional experience in management related
fields.
- You
have an academic degree in social sciences, economics, development studies,
or journalism with focus on international relations.
- You
are informed on gender and trade related policy issues.
- You
have experience in advocacy, lobbying or public relations.
- You
display a sound knowledge of the various European institutions and of
NGDO’s on European level.
- You
have acquaintance with financial management.
- You
enjoy working in a team.
SKILLS
REQUIRED
- Fluent
in English and preferably French.
- Good
working knowledge of MS Office, Internet.
