Executive Director

AFMIN


The Africa Microfinance Network (AFMIN) is a newly established regional umbrella organization of country -level microfinance networks in Africa and has the status of an international non-governmental organization. AFMIN presently has a membership of 13 country-level networks from East, West and Southern Africa. These networks, which incorporate over 300 microfinance institutions serving more than 2 million poor entrepreneurs, are devoted to building institutional capacity, performance standards and policy change in
microfinance.

The Africa Microfinance Network initiative was launched in mid-1997. African leaders, supported by Women’s World Banking, have met six times to share best practice and lessons on building purposeful networks. The Africa Microfinance Network was formalized in November 2000, with a Board elected and a constitution ratified by leaders of the 13 country-level networks that are the founding members.

The secretariat of AFMIN will be located in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. AFMIN is seeking to recruit its first Executive Director to head its secretariat. The Executive Director will be expected to reside in Abidjan. He/she will be answerable to the Board of AFMIN and will have primary responsibility for the leadership and management of AFMIN. His/her specific functions will include the following:

· recruiting and managing the personnel, according to the policies and procedures approved by the Board;
· developing and implementing AFMIN’s programs;
· mobilizing and managing financial and technical resources;
· preparing for meetings of the AFMIN Board and General Assembly;
· managing relations with members of AFMIN and other partners; and
· promoting and marketing AFMIN.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. An African national with a university degree in a relevant field, with at least five years experience in microfinance.
2. Must be fluent in French or English and have a good working knowledge of the other.
3. Must have strong negotiation, advocacy and consensus building skills, with demonstrated ability to work with multilateral and bilateral organizations, and governments.
4. Experience in managing NGOs or member-based organizations and in an international setting will be an advantage.
5. Intuitive problem-solver able to work well under pressure.
6. Excellent organizational and priority-setting skills, patient and attentive to detail
7. Not less than 30 years of age.

DURATION OF CONTRACT:
Initially for three years, including one year probation. Renewable every two years.
