VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

To reinforce our forest conservation activities in the Danube and Carpathian region, WWF, the conservation organisation, is looking for an experienced professional for the post of:

FOREST TEAM LEADER

to be based in Vienna/Austria or Budapest/Hungary

 The main responsibilities will be to:

 -          develop, periodically refine and implement the forest programme of the WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme Office, with particular emphasis on the Carpathian Ecoregion and the Rhodope Mountains

-          co-ordinate and supervise all forestry related activities of WWF in the area, and co-ordinate them with the other elements of the DCPO programme

-          ensure that the activities are consistent with, and integrated in the activities of WWF as a whole (such as the Target Driven Programmes, the European Forest Programme, Ecoregion Programmes, the World Bank/WWF Alliance, Global Forest and Trade Initiative, etc.)

-          lead the development and screening of field and policy projects

-          co-ordinate the monitoring and evaluation of projects within the forestry programme and report back to the Deputy Director

-          develop the capacity of appropriate staff to effectively manage the forest programme projects

-          supervise the work of the DCPO forest officers

-          represent the DCPO in forest related external fora within and outside the Danube-Carpathian area.

  

The main qualifications and experience required are:

 -          a university degree in forestry or environmental policy

-          knowledge of, and/or work experience in, Central and Eastern Europe

-          familiarity with forest policy issues of the region, most notably forest certification

-          experience working in a responsible position and in project management

-          good interpersonal skills and capability to work with a wide range of people

-          ability to travel extensively on a short notice

-          familiarity with common office software, including internet and intranet

-          fluency in English; other local languages highly desirable.
