Slipknot - Iowa (Roadrunner)                                                           My Rating:  4 of 5 Chromosomes

I love Slipknot but I will be biased, I will not knock them, because a true maggot never will.  First off I read an article that said that Slipknot was only a year of development from making a truly classic death metal CD to compare to the greats like Reign in Blood by Slayer, and Human by Death,  and I see it also in Iowa, Iowa is an awesome CD but seems to be on the edge of being something you have never heard and will never hear again.  It is brutal, in your face, moody, and unforgiving in it's message.  I am from Iowa.  Cedar Rapids, to shout out, so I know what these guys say about Iowa, and being one of a few metal heads from Iowa who know who Death, Carcass, Deicide, Exodus, Dark Angel, and others are and truely dig that shit.  But Slipknot is Slipknot, and not an old definition Death Metal band.  SO, lets talk trackes.  People=Shit, Heretic Anthem,  Disasterpiece, I am Hated and New Abortion are the best songs of the CD for the crazy pyrotechnic Slipknot brutality fest.  Left Behind is a little more restrained but I think it is a very strong song as far as something a little mainstream goes, it is still on the edge of being to heavy for radio play so I do not see what people bitch about when they say it is a sell out song, or for exposure, maybe it is but it isn't a cheesy lets forget about what we do and who we are song, like some bvands do now.  Limp Bizkit being the king of the Lets do a Rap tune and call it Limp Bizkit even tho next song I am going to be telling the world to fuck off.  In some interviews I head Slipknot saying it may only be a 5 CD thing for them because of the strain and toll it takes on there bodies to play shows.   Well if this is true and this is only the second they have released with full production assistance, It will be one of the finest 5 CD legacies any band has ever made in the Heavy Metal if they keep growing like they have. The drums are simply amazing on this CD, Joey is sounding like a Dave Lombardo in the making, not all the way there yet, but before you say well there are 3 drummers, you should see them live and you will see that really almost all that you hear is Joey playing.  Root and Thomson lay crushing riff after crushing riff like a downtuned power chord bulldozer. All of these musical elements are accentuated my Corey's screaming/singing.  All of these things are coming around for these 9 metal monsters.  A damn great sophmore CD fot these guys.
