The Strike Cruiser was originally designed during the reign of the Empire, however it's wide range of uses has made it popular within the New Republic as well. It was designed to be a mass produced in a limited amount of time. This is partly because many of the components are pre-fabricated. This reduces both time and cost for the construction of this vessel. The prefabricated components are easily modified for specific roles. This makes it an excellent multi-purpose vessel. Letting it aid in invasion with an increased capacity for planetary invasion equipment, and it can also be modified to carry two starfighter squadrons making it a descent platform to launch New Republic fighters.
