"What's wrong, Gatomon?" The small form of Gatomon looked up as her counterpart, Hikari, stood in front of her.
"Nothing, Hika. Just thinking," Gatomon replied.
"Thinking of what?" Hikari sat down next to Gatomon. She liked listening in on what others thought. Gatomon whipped her tail around in an attempt to distract herself from her own thoughts.
"I was thinking… About when I first digivolved to Angewomon. I felt so different, so human, so… dirty." Hikari's eyes widened at Gatomon's musings.
"Dirty? Gatomon, there's nothing wrong with being human. While you may be human looking as Angewomon, you aren't, because you're a Digimon. Just like when Patamon becomes Angemon, he isn't human." Gatomon shook her head. She stood up and walked around Hikari.
"No, Hika. You wouldn't understand. I feel so different! I don't have paws. I have hands I have skin, not fur. I never think about these things when I am Angewomon, since I'm never as her long enough when it's calm to think about it. Since I am me for so long, I wind up thinking of these things." Gatomon plopped down on Hikari's lap. "I wish I could be Angewomon long enough to think of these things." Hikari smiled and petted Gatomon's fuzzy head.
"Don't worry, Gatomon. I'm sure you'll understand yourself some day." Gatomon started to doze off on Hikari's lap. Hikari herself was in the shelter of a friendly palm tree. As Gatomon began to doze off, Hikari noticed something. It was heat. She was feeling warm. But it was not a feverish heat. A heat as if she was in trouble. "Oh…" Hikari took her tag out from underneath her shirt. The crest it contained was beginning to glow and swirl, something she had not seen it do before. She felt Gatomon, and she was getting warm, like the crest.
"Gatomon, are you okay?" Gatomon was fast asleep on Hikari's lap. She stood up and set Gatomon down next to the palm tree. The small form of Gatomon began to glow and shed rays of light. The light became so strong Hikari had to shield her eyes. When it faded away, she opened them to see the slumbering form of Angewomon lying next to the palm tree. "Angewomon!" Hikari ran over to the sleeping Angewomon and began to tug at her arm. "Wake up! You're Angewomon!" When Hikari found that Angewomon would not wake, she laid herself next to Angewomon. "Well, a nap isn't too bad of an idea. I am kind of tired," Hikari said as she yawned. Her eyes closed and she dozed off next to Angewomon.

"I don't think I've slept like that in years…" Angewomon stretched and yawned. "Wait a minute. I've Digivolved to Angewomon! But Hika wasn't in trouble…" She stood up and looked at the now smaller form of Hikari. "Hika, I think I should show you something now," Angewomon whispered into Hikari's ear. She picked up Hikari and held her close as she flew off to the horizon.
"Angewomon, where are you taking me?" She tilted her head down to see the awakening form of Hikari. Angewomon smiled.
"Hika, I think you subconsciously gave me the energy to stay as Angewomon without fighting. While I am not Gatomon… I think I can explore a few things," explained Angewomon. Hikari watched the world pass under her as Angewomon held her safely in her arms.
"Hika, this is where I wanted to bring you." Angewomon set herself down on the ground and let Hika free. The two of them walked towards the cave in front of them. "Only angels know of this place. This is the cave of truth. When you enter, you embody what is in your heart." Hika looked up at Angewomon. "You should go in first, Hika." Hikari obeyed her guardian and entered the cave. As soon as she entered she became swallowed in light. Hikari disappeared for a moment. She soon reappeared and the light vanished.
"Angewomon… I feel so different…" Angewomon smiled as she saw the transformed Hikari. The cave had turned her into what she truly was, a beautiful angel of light. Hikari's wings spread apart as she glowed with her light. Hikari's form resembled her younger self, if only fifteen years older.
"That is because angels are full of purity and light. This is what you really are, Hika. I, on the other hand, have something else in my heart." Angewomon passed angel Hikari as she walked into the cave. As Angewomon entered the cave, there was not light as when Hikari entered. Instead, the light shifted to shadows. Angewomon emerged from the cave in her usual form, but it was grayed and ethereal. As Angewomon spoke, her words were echoed and distorted.
"My heart is full of confusion. I may be an angel of light as you are, but I am not sure anymore. This is why I look so fuzzy to you, Hika." Hikari floated over to the changed Angewomon. She tried to hold her hand, but she could not. It was as if Angewomon was turned into a ghost.
"Angewomon, why do you doubt yourself so much?" Hikari questioned as she flew around Angewomon. "This is why you're so… cloudy. You don't have faith in yourself, now that you've been yourself long enough to think about it." Angewomon simply shrugged Hikari off.
"Hika, I would think that now you're an angel, you would understand. You're not yourself anymore. You're not really Hika. When I Digivolve to Angewomon, I'm not Gatomon. The change for me is much more radical. To completely become a different species in a matter of seconds." Hikari continued to fly around Angewomon as she mused.
"Well, I don't know what to say, Angewomon. Other than the fact that you're missing something." Angewomon glared at Hikari. "Well, it's the truth. You're missing me." An expression of surprise came across Angewomon's otherwise stoic face.
"Hika, why would I be missing you? I'm always with you." Hikari shook her head.
"Not in that sense. You're missing what Gatomon always has. Gatomon always plays with me, and she always loves to be around me. However, when you are Angewomon, all you do is protect me. That's all fine and well, but you never have any fun! It seems that while Gatomon has released her tension, you have taken it in. Fly with me, Angewomon!" Hikari spread her wings high and flew high into the sky. She noticed that Angewomon was not at her side. "Come on, Angewomon!" Angewomon would not follow Hikari.
"No, Hika." Angewomon sat on the ground and wrapped herself in her wings. She crawled into the cave of truth and reverted to her original self. Hikari took her crest out from under her angel robes.
"It's not glowing anymore…" Hikari floated to the ground and watched as Angewomon reverted to Gatomon. "Gatomon!" Hikari flew over to Gatomon's side. Gatomon was unconscious, and she herself was beginning to revert to Salamon! "Salamon, what is happening to you?" Salamon opened her eyes and smiled at Hikari.
"Hika, I think it's the time that you have to be the protector… Please, don't let go…" Hikari picked up Salamon and felt her become warm. Salamon reverted another stage to Nyaromon. "Hika, take me to the Primary Village. Someone there can help me." Hikari nodded slowly. Nyaromon closed her eyes and she reverted again to her baby form of Yukimipotamon. Yuki didn't last long and she finally reverted into her state as a DigiEgg.
"Oh no…" Hikari held the egg close to her bosom as she began to cry. "Gatomon, please come back…" Hikari held the egg close as she spread her wings. "Don't worry, I'll take you there, if I can get you back," Hikari whispered to the DigiEgg. Hikari flew off into the horizon, making any attempt to save her friend.

Hikari arrived at the front of the Primary Village. The village was gray and deserted. The Dark Masters made it this way. Hikari floated around while holding her DigiEgg close.
"Hello? Is anyone around? Can someone help me?" Hikari wandered around the deserted village. DigiEggs were turned to stone. The once colorful building blocks were gray and shattered. Hikari kept walking the deserted pathway until she came to a house that was turned to stone. The door was destroyed and she walked in. Inside she found a lone lizard Digimon that was sitting at a table. He was playing solitaire and muttering.
"Excuse me," Hikari feebly spoke. The lizard Digimon turned around and looked at the angel girl in front of him.
"Well then, I don't get visitors too often… Not since that Piedmon came by. Who might you be?" Hikari floated over to where the red lizard Digimon was sitting.
"My name is Hikari Kamiya. I'm sure you've heard of me." The lizard Digimon narrowed his eyes at Hikari. He rubbed his scaly chin with his fingers.
"Well, I do know that name. It belongs to the eighth DigiDestined. But you can't be her. She's not an… Angel woman." Hikari laughed quietly.
"You're right, I'm not usually an angel. It's a long story. But I need your help," Hikari pleaded, "Umm, what is your name?" The Digimon in front of her smiled.
"My name is Elecmon. I'm the caretaker of this village. But it doesn't really need me at the moment, as you can see." Hikari didn't need to be reminded of the sad state of the Primary Village. She set her DigiEgg on the table. "Oh, a DigiEgg! Where did you find that?"
"It's my friend Gatomon. At least it used to be Gatomon. All of a sudden she began to reverse Digivolve or something." Hikari wiped her eyes clean. Elecmon picked up the egg and looked at it.
"Hm, I've heard of that happening. It usually doesn't have to do with the Digimon, though. In your case, I believe the trouble is rooted within you!" Hikari was taken aback by Elecmon's statements.
"Elecmon, why would it be my fault?" Hikari questioned. Elecmon chuckled and picked up the DigiEgg.
"She was responding to your thoughts. For some reason she felt as if you were neglecting her. If you release her and if you both reach what you need to know, she will become her regular self again. I can teach you to release her from her egg, but if you aren't careful, she will revert to an egg again. Understand?" Hikari nodded at Elecmon's words. "Good. If you give the egg a gentle rub like this, it'll hatch." Elecmon rubbed the egg and handed it to Hikari. The egg shone and rays of light poked through. The egg hatched and released the tiny form of Yukimipotamon.
"Yuki…" Hikari held the small white blob close to her bosom. "Thank you, Elecmon." Elecmon nodded his head.
"Nothing to it, Hikari. I think you should take Yuki somewhere and get to know her better." Hikari heeded Elecmon's words and flew out of his house. She held the small form of Yukimipotamon close.
"Yuki, I missed you." Yukimipotamon yawned and squeaked. Hikari flew in the sky and returned to the cave of truth. "If this is one of the secrets that angels keep within, what could the others be?" Hikari set Yukimipotamon on the ground and began to play with it. "You can have fun, can't you?" Hikari began tickling Yukimipotamon and it bean to squeak. Hikari began to giggle. Suddenly, a puff of smoke emerged and Yukimipotamon had Digivolved to Nyaromon. "Nyaromon!"
"Hika!" Nyaromon bounced over to Hikari. "Hika!" Nyaromon bounced around Hikari until she became surrounded by light. Hikari smiled. Nyaromon had Digivolved into Salamon! "Hika!" Hikari picked up Salamon and the two of them flew around the outside of the cave.
"Salamon, I think this is what we were missing." Hikari felt Salamon get warmer in her arms. Salamon was Digivolving! She became engulfed in light and Digivolved to Gatomon. Hikari floated to the ground and set Gatomon on the ground.
"Hika, please, take out your crest." Hikari obeyed Gatomon and took her crest out of her robe. It began to glow again, but not in the swirling pattern. The crest shot a bright pink light at Gatomon. Hikari watched as the small form of Gatomon transformed into the angelic figure of Angewomon. "Hika, I think I understand something now." Angewomon and Hikari almost looked like sisters when Angewomon approached her.
"What, Angewomon?" Angewomon walked past Hikari and into the cave of truth. There were no shadows this time. Instead, when Angewomon walked in there was a blinding flash of light. Angewomon reappeared in a matter of seconds in her usual form, but this time she was surrounded by bright light.
"Hika, I found that it wasn't only my job to be the caretaker. You love me enough to go through all the trouble to save me. You have given me some of your light, and for that I am very grateful. I think now that you have spent some time as an angel, you have been bestowed with some of the secrets that my brethren hold deep within." Angewomon set her hand on Hikari's shoulder. Hikari looked up at her guardian, almost looking like she was going to cry.
"Angewomon, I…" Hikari was unable to find the words. She ran into Angewomon's arms and began crying loudly. Angewomon smiled and patted Hikari's head.
"I think it's time we should go now, Hika." Angewomon took the crying Hikari into the cave of truth. The two of them emerged as their regular selves. Hikari was no longer an adult angel, she was now her original self, although she did not realize it. She was held tight in Angewomon's arms and unconscious. Angewomon spread her wings and took off into the sky.

Hika, I think you've learned something today
What it is, I can't say.
I may be your protector, but this you have seen
How my life was without your being.
How long I searched and could not find
A friend that I could call mine.
When I saw you, I felt something strange
Something that I could not explain.
After today, I think you have seen
Something that you might be.
I know much more, you just need to take a leap
To find out the secrets that angels keep.
