White leaps his way to three firsts
-By C.W. O'Brien
Inman-Justin White didnt appear to be effected by the gold, foggy
conditions on Tuesday evening at Inman's five team meet.
In the Teutons' first track and field meet of the year, all the
6-foot-10 senior did was win individual titles in the high jump (6'1"),
long jump (20-5), and triple jump (42-0).
"The High jump was probably the toughest event of the day beacuase
we jumped straight into the wind," said White, whose Teutons' 95 team
points was second to sterling's 112 on the men's side. "I was just
happy to win that event at 6'1."
"In the other two jumps, I was happy with my marks because I'm not
far from where I finished last year. But to be honest, I really didn't
know what to expect coming into today. I didn't expect this."
Then, just to test the boundaries of his athleticism, white settled
into his blocks and ran in the 200-meter dash. Not a classic 200 runner,
the long strider managed to place third in a time of 23.9 seconds.
"It's something I want to do this season, to see what I can do and
how much I can improve," White said. "I haven't worked on the 200 a lot
since the jumps are my main thing, but I thought it went well today."
White wasn't the only one with a fast start to the season.
Sophomore sensation Nick Davis blitzed his way to a second place in
the 100-meter dash, a first place in the 200-meter dash, and anchored the
400-meter relay which also took first place.
"I have been training really hard in the off-season just to get ready
for this. I started working hard in November and haven't slacked off since.
I have been on the track or in the weight room every morning since November 1.
I really want it bad this year."
The Teutons are off and running to a great start and are looking to improve
as the season moves along. Good luck Teutons!
