These beautiful sand dunes are  © Linda Nix, Artist These dunes are on a little peninsula just south of Port St. Joe, Florida in a State Park. Condominiums have rapidly taken over the beautiful white sand beaches along the Northwest Florida Coast.  Our wonderful earth is in big trouble! Her Oceans, Rivers, and Lakes, are contamiated. If you have been to my beaches pageBeachesyou will have seen pictures of the sand and water in Destin, Florida, the most pristine in the world. I wanted to cry on one of my visits because pools of black oily tar had washed up on to the white sand beach. Proof that something must be done to stop the pollution of our waters.Forty five years ago, this same black greasy, sticky tar like stuff was on the beaches of the New Jersey Shore. As a young girl I remember stepping in the mess. No one was paying attention then. Our Vice President, Al Gore is now, and people are not believing him. Our earth is being ruined for habitation for our future generations! Today I must use bottled water for drinking because the strong taste of cholrine ruins it for me. My having to buy bottle water for drinking is shocking. If twenty years ago you had told me I would be doing this I would have laughed because I do not live in a big city. We must clean up our act now. |
