Barnabas Collins has been around for over 175 years. He came home to Collinwood in 1966, telling everyone that he is a distant cousin and direct descendant of the original Barnabas Collins who lived in the 18th century. But his best friends, Dr. Julia Hoffman and Prof T. Eliot Stokes, and Angelique, his wife, know the truth of his past. He and the original Barnabas Collins are one in the same.

In 1795 he was to marry the beautiful Josette DuPres, but Josette’s maid, a witch named Angelique Bouchard, was infatuated with Barnabas. She was so jealous of Josette’s love for Barnabas that she cast a spell over Barnabas’ beloved Josette and caused her to fall in love with his

young, handsome uncle, Jeremiah. Josette was driven mad and jumped off Widow’s Hill to the ocean rocks below and died. But Barnabas did not turn to Angelique for comfort as she had hoped; he despised her even more. When he did not turn to Angelique, she placed the worst curse she could on poor Barnabas. He was to walk the world forever as a vampire, the living dead. Barnabas was never to see the light of day, forever to live in darkness, and anyone whom he loved was doomed to death.

He had spent years chained in his coffin by his father, Joshua Collins. Joshua Collins could not bring himself to kill his son, so he chained him in his coffin---never to roam Collinwood again. Then, unwittingly, Willie Loomis set Barnabas free in his search for the jewels that were supposed to be buried with Barnabas.

In the years since his release from his coffin, Barnabas has moved from the pain and anger of the curse to being mortal again and married to the woman that had stayed true to him for all those years, Angelique. They are both mortal and living a life they could have only dreamed of years before. Still, the pain of those hundred years comes to haunt them both.

Now they must face a new threat to Collinwood, their family, and their still fragile marriage.
