Fr. Augustine Herbers, SVD

Memorial Library

Fr. Herbers was the founder of the school which was originally called Divine Word Academy of Urdaneta.  As a lasting show of gratitude for his dedication to the school and to its alumni,  the alumni both from the Philippines and overseas have thought about establishing a library that will carry his name.  The DWCUAA-Philippines under the leadership of Adelaida Serafica-Deogracias, Class 1970 have made plans in building a two story structure in which the library will occupy the upper floor.  Please feel free to express your thoughts about this project.  Please email Johnny Soriano at johnny0825sori@yahoo.com or Prime Corpuz, prime_corpuz@yahoo.com.

EVERYBODY IS ENCOURAGED TO SEND IN THEIR FINANCIAL DONATIONS WHEN THE LOGISTICS IN SETTING UP THIS PROJECT ARE FINALIZED.  ALUMNI WHO HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONTRIBUTE MORE THAN ANYBODY ARE MORE THAN ENCOURAGED TO DO SO.  REMEMBER, THIS IS A HUGE PROJECT THAT REQUIRES A LOT OF PARTICIPANTS AND MOSTLY FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTORS.

The following are excerpts of ideas being tossed around.  Please read on:

Thanks, Johnny. Yes, it was a wonderful Mother's Day!
These are books withdrawn and they are not even old editions. Some are only 2-4 yrs. old and in different subjects Non-Fiction to Fiction for easy reading. Let me know what categories the school needs and I will set it aside . My cousin from California built a High School Library in Natividad National High School. He gave me $100 for shipping (Balikbayan box) and sent it directly to the school thru the Principal's attention. DWA will be happy to have the books. Keep in mind that these books are in pretty good condition and up-to-date to North American standards.   There is no need for any paper work.  Just let me know when and I will start collecting.

"The building is also a laudable project, but it needs lot of work, right? I can donate books, just help out in the door to door expenses. Tell me the kind of books which is needed: fiction, high school/college reference, etc. I withdraw books all the time and then I can send them in a box. I heard before that the US Navy can bring these books to the Philippines free of charge. Is this still true? Anyway, just tell me for now the kinds of book needed and I will keep them aside, okay?"

MIGUELITA HUFANA-COSTES, former school librarian

"I am so glad to hear about the plan of the DWCUAA to build a library. I am always willing to support anything for the improvement and will benefit the future generations of Divinians. Just keep me posted ."

" The FR. HERBERS MEMORIAL LIBRARY is an excellent idea.  As a matter of fact, it is long overdue.

Let's start the ball rolling!"

RUFO BRUAN III, 1972

I like this idea. Maybe we can name it after Fr. Herbers. Please let me know when you start the fundraising. Thanks.
