>I don't want you and I don't need you
who is he talking to here?
(I Think it's the Beautiful People)
i.e., the pretty, blonde hair blue eyed rich perfect people. The ones who
are blind. Most of this song is pretty damn self-explanatory.
>don't bother to resist, I'll beat you
Hehe. Do what I say, or get punished. Hah. Of course, this is the beginning
of the cycle in ACS...Hmmm...if you want to go by technical Tarot, this
would be, I think, the Magiciian, but there are not enough songs. Still, I
think of this...as how we see Manson...a rock star injecting the kids with
his thoughts and words...one of them being the worm destined to become the
angel, blah blah.
>It's not your fault that you're always wrong
It's not your fault your STUPID! Except I see this as being sarcastic, more
than anything else. But then again, the BP were raised by society, and
taught by society...and they were taught to be blind...so it's not really
THEIR fault...it's society's fault. but it is their fault they remain that
way.
>the weak ones are there to justify the strong
I think this is Nietzche. Or something. I dunno, but I know this is a
philosopher. But it's the whole thing....if noone flipped hamburgers, then
how would the scientists get their Big Macs? If noone tilled the lands, how
would the feudal lords have time to govern? The people at the bottom are
needed for the people at top to stand on. Sometimes, literally. (Yertle the
Turtle)
>the beautiful people, the beautiful people
>it's all relative to the size of your steeple
How everything tends to be ruled by religion. I mean, Americans are ruled
by Christianity. So...your power/status/importance is related to the size of
your steeple...i.e. which church you go to. Being the view of the BP.
>you can't see the forest for the trees
This is pretty self-explanatory. I think Meg covered it pretty well.
>you can't smell
>your own shit on your knees
Heh. This is kind of like "your spouting shit, and you don't even realize
it" That's the whole thing. These people are so blind to anything....BAD. to
anything different, and not fitting in their views...that they will ignore
it...
>Hey you, what do you see?
>something beautiful, something free?
Oh man..this is my epiphany....*LOL*
I was at the Marilyn Manson concert in Dallas, Nov 5, 1999, the one at the
Bronco Bowl. (my second Manson concert ever) and...he sang these lines, and
maybe it was the contact high, but...
To me, these lines say
'Look at me...I am beautiful but I am not blind'
This is like the moment of truth revealed...You don't have to be blind and
stupid to be 'beautiful'...it's relative...to you.
Anyway, this was pretty damn important to me then...and then I came back
from the concert, and started up my mailing list and my webpage. It's why my
webpage is called Something Beautiful, Something Free....
>hey you, are you trying to be mean?
self-explanatory, pretty much
>if you live with apes man, it's hard to be clean
I don't know if this is sarcasm towards the bp or towards everyone else/...
I think it's a bit of both...
But the whole point of fact...you live with these people, they are going to
infect you with their diseases. They are going to dumb you down, distract
you....lead you off the path
I wouldn't say this says become a recluse...but I think it says, choose your
friends and companions wisely.
>there's no time to discriminate,
>hate every motherfucker
>that's in your way
this is also pretty self-explanatory, and this has probably gotten Manson
into a LOT of trouble...
But that's the whole point...don't hate people because of what they look
like, etc. etc. But if they get in your path, smack em out. You don't have
time to play their bullshit games.
>the worms will live in every host
>it's hard to pick which one they eat most
The worms are an image from Pink Floyd's the Wall....That is probably why
this makes perfect sense, yet I am having problems explaining it...
but the worms....I wouldn't necessarily say hate, though that is a part of
it...they are....self-doubt. negativity...all these things that erode at
you, at what you are....
>the horrible people, the horrible people
>it's as anatomic as the size of your steeple
Mirror here...
we've gone from the bp to the horrible people...because they are the same
thing. This is just saying the same thing as earlier....just in a different
way...because it's all the same. beautiful is horrible, and their status is
based on size. Church, house, car, penis, tits. everything.
>capitalism has made it this way,
>old-fashioned fascism
>will take it away
Sorry...have a Twiggy moment there...remember him goosestepping across the
stage at this point. *G* ok, I am better now
Capitalism sucks. that's the whole deal here. A system that is based on
entrepeneurism (I think I spelled that somewhat right) and money as a status
symbol is a ripe breeding ground for the bp. And that is what capitalism
is....
Rev. Jess
I spoke too soon......the analysis is already underway.
> The Beautiful People
>
As already stated, this one's very popular, and has been analyzed for us
many times, such that it's self-explanatory. But, what the heck, we can add
more thought to it. Manson likes dichotomies. Hence his band's namesake.
Always mix the good with the bad, so you see everything. Beauty on the
outside, ignorance on the inside. At the concerts, he likes to call all his
fans beautiful people in (what I think) is affection toward his fans mixed
with the mockery of all the mainstreamers that do what they're told by
governing bodies, etc. We're all sort of doing the mockery dance with him,
calling ourselves beautiful in that way.
> I don't want you and I don't need you
Fiercely independent.
> don't bother to resist, I'll beat you
I love that line. Could also have tones of something more complex. I'll
always be here, and if I'm not, someone is guaranteed to take my place in
the social role I play.
> It's not your fault that you're always wrong
If you've listened to your governing bodies, and they're wrong, then so are
you, but it's not necessarily your fault.
> the weak ones are there to justify the strong
As Jess said, philosophic. Social Darwinism, and has been touched on by
Nietzche, as well as a host of others.
> the beautiful people, the beautiful people
> it's all relative to the size of your steeple
America loves quantity over quality, with a concentration in mind-numbing
religious philosophy (steeple).
> you can't see the forest for the trees
Big picture, as prev. stated.
> you can't smell
> your own shit on your knees
I remember Manson's references to the evangelist preachers who would be
caught with their pants down, literally, with minors.
> Hey you, what do you see?
> something beautiful, something free?
F***ing beautiful.
> hey you, are you trying to be mean?
> if you live with apes man, it's hard to be clean
How are we, as citizens, supposed to be clean when we live in an unclean
society?
> there's no time to discriminate,
> hate every motherfucker
> that's in your way
Don't discriminate. Use your head, and be fair. Be true to yourself.
> the worms will live in every host
> it's hard to pick which one they eat most
Reinforcing the line before.....don't discriminate, because there is cancer
in everyone. Manson espouses thinking for yourself, and not from a social
agenda. Think of society and mankind as if you were a worm. How would you
think of society then?
> the horrible people, the horrible people
> it's as anatomic as the size of your steeple
Full circle now.
> capitalism has made it this way,
> old-fashioned fascism
> will take it away
A look at the model of America we're in. Capitalism will take it so far,
until the evolutary process goes as far as it can, and fascism is the
inevitable result. Regardless who wins.

Now I remember what I was going to say...
and actually, I always found it rather...sarcastic. he says "How does it
feel to be one of the Beautiful People?"...but...not everyone there knows
what is going on. a good portion of his fans ARE the BP. That's the point..
anyway...
"How does it feel to the one of the Beautiful People?"
the Beatles fans will recognize that as the opening line for "baby, you're a
rich man" from Yellow Submarine. *G*
Actually, I have to thank 966 for pointing it out to me.... but it's
true....
So I think at the next concert, when he says that, I'm going to yell back
"happy to be that way"....*shrugs* or just stick with my customary "fuck
you"
Rev. Jess
The Beautiful People
>The beautiful people, the beautiful people,
>It's all relative to the size of your steeple
hehehe i've seen churches built next to others, and
they DO make sure thier steeple's bigger. it's kinda
funny.
>Hey you, are you trying to be mean?
>If you live with apes, man, it's hard to be clean
he couldve left out "man", but he didnt. i think it
was to make sure we knew he was calling mankind apes.
something about if this was a perfect world, marilyn
manson would not need to be. you cant keep yourself
from falling into "sin"
when you're buried in it from all sides.
>The worms will live in every host
>It's hard to pick which one they eat the most
i know the worms hehehe.... they *are* everywhere.
they crawl inside your mind and eat the decay. the
more they eat away, the more you see.
manson actually does have quite a few beatles
referances, little things here and there. they said
they were bigger than jesus, mm says he's bigger than
satan.
