Dr.
Uday Bhawalkar
- Graduate in
Chemical Engineering, 1973, from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai
(Bombay).
- 30 years of work
in the field of agriculture, pollution prevention and resource recovery.
- Established
the Bhawalkar Earthworm
Research Institute (BERI) in
1981, renamed now as Bhawalkar Ecological Research Institute (BERI)
in Pune (India).
- Developed and
promoted his own vermiculture model called Vermiculture
Ecotechnology.
- Awarded Ph.D. in
Chemical Engineering for this work (1997, IIT Mumbai).
- Visited 15
countries to participate in seminars and interact with others in the field.
- Developed
Eco-Logic, a new approach to understand the nature, during his 9 visits to
the USA (1994-2003).
- In addition to two
books, Turning Garbage into Gold, and Vermiculture
Ecotechnology, Dr. Bhawalkar has also written several
articles for Worm Digest.
- He has developed two eco-products, SUJALA and SU-JWALA, which go to the root cause of
pollution and generates resources.
- Uday is ably
backed by his wife, Vidula, an electronic engineer turned ecologist. He has two daughters, Sarita and Kshipra.
