Francis Marion Brantley (CSA)  1842-1925 Born December 28, 1842 in Meriwether County, GA.  He served in Company E 9th Arkansas Infantry.  He was the son of Lewis A. And Isabella (Duke) Brantley.  Lewis was the son of Jesse and Mary (O'Rear) Brantley.  Jesse seems to be part of the Chatham County, NC family who came to GA soon after the Revolutionary War.  Francis' father, Lewis and his uncle Edmund Brantley's family moved to  Drew County, AR about 1850.  He married 3 times.  His first wife was Martha Carolina Snead who he married in 1864.  He later married Emma (Hoover) Snider (1903) and then Ella J. Hoover (1918).

John Allen Brantley (CSA)  John Allen Brantley was born June 3, 1839 in Washington County, GA.  Hw was the son of William and Rebecca Brantley.  William was the son of Harris, of Joseph, of Benjamin, of John, of Edward, of Phillip, of Edward Brantly I.  He served in Company D 59th Regiment Georgia Vol. Infantry.  He was captured at Wilderness, VA on May 6, 1864 and released at Elmira, NY on June 19th 1865.

John H. Steve Brantley - John Steve Brantley and wife, Zora Crowell.  John was born in 1848 to John and Elizabeth (Arron) Brantley.  John (Sr.) was the son of Nathaniel Brantley, son of Kentucky James Brantley who arrived in Livingston County, KY about 1822.

Jonathan Lorenza Dow Brantley - Jonathan L. D. Brantley and wife, Orpha Crider.  Jonathan was born March 1850 in Crittenden County, Kentucky.  He was the son of John and Elizabeth (Aaron) Brantley, of Nathaniel Brantley, of Kentucky James Brantley.  He was the brother of John Steve Brantley above.

Jesse Wilkie Brantley (1849-1891)  Jesse Wilkie Brantley, born October 5, 1849, was the son of Jesse, Jr. and Elizabeth (Tutt) Brantley, of Jesse Sr., of Thomas who died 1777 Northampton, County, NC.  This Thomas (d.1777) was the grandson of Clay, of John, of Edward Brantley I.  Jesse Wilkie died June 9, 1891.

John Thomas Brantley (1860-1933) Born December 2, 1860 in Union Parish, LA.  He was the son of Thomas John and Mary Jane (Clemmons) Brantley.  Thomas was the son of Thomas was the son of Thomas Brantley and Caroline E. Tisdale.  Thomas, Se was the son of Jesse, of Thomas Brantley who died in Northampton County, NC in 1777.  John married Sally Jane Norris.

John Martin Brantley (1850-1929) John Martin was the son of Thomas and Holland (Lee) Brantley.  He was born January 2, 1850 in Union Parrish, LA.  Thomas was the son of Jesse (see above).  John married Octavia Wickliffe, then Sarah Ann Taylor.

Elizabeth Brantley Gresham Milburn (1840) Elizabeth Brantley was the daughter of Jesse, Jr. and Elizabeth (Tutt) Brantley.  She was born in Kemper County, MS in 1840.  She married Dudley Gresham and later a Mr. Milburn.

Martin Batte Brantley (1853-1932)  Martin Batte Brantley was the son of Thomas Brantley and his second wife, Holland Lee.  He was born August 25, 1853 in Union Parish, LA.  He married first, Rosa Taylor and second, Louisa A. Roan (seen here).  He died in union Parish on June 14, 1932.  He had 4 children with Rosa dn 9 children with Louisa.

Reverend Erskin Brantley (1850-1936)  Erskin Brantley was born February 1, 1850 in Giles County, TN.  He was the son of Edwin Theodore Brantley and his wife Eliza Brown.  Edwin came from Wilcox County, AL and is believed to be the son of a Jonathan Brantley, of Marmaduke Brantley.  Erskin entered Union Theological Seminary at Richmond, VA in 1874 and later received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Austin College, Sherman, TX.  He married twice:  First, charlotte E. Foster and later, Mary McMillan.  Erskin, a renowned minister in Texas and Oklahoma, died in Antlers, OK on December 26, 1936.

Frederick Brantley (1859-1944) He was born July 30, 1859 in Burnet County, TX.  He was the son of Josiah Brantley, Jr, of Josiah Brantley, Sr.  The family is believed to have come from Nash County, NC.  Josiah is likely a descendant of John Brantley, who died in Nash county in 1785.  Frederick married Sarah J. Doggett on July 4, 1878 in Hamilton County, TX.  They issued twelve children.  Frederick died on April 13, 1944 in Lincoln County, NM.

Richard Harris Brantley  (1875-1940) He was the son of Jones Patrick Brantley of Harris Brantley.  Richard was born April 8, 1875.  He married Kena Elizabeth Barnett.  He died March 10, 1940.

Lewis W. Brantley  Born ca 1832 in Dallas Co, AL.  He was the son of  Hillliard J. Brantley of, Harris  Brantley, of  Thomas Brantley & Rachel Hill.  He was in Harrison County, TX in 1860.  Died in service of  CSA of smallpox on Mar 28, 1864 in Rock Island, IL

George W.  Brantley Born  Sept 22, 1879 in Levy County, Florida.  He was the  son of Calvin Brantley  and  Sally Renfroe.   He married Sally Clarke (shown here)  in 1900.  He died in Crisp County, Georgia in 1907.

Bennett BrantleyCSA,  Served in E Company, NC 7th Infantry, CSA.  From War Record:  Born 02 Jun 1841 in Nash County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Wilson County at age 18, May 25, 1861, for the war.  Mustered in as Private and promoted to Corporal on December 21, 1862. Promoted to Sergeant in March-April, 1863.  Present or accounted for until he died January 24, 1864.  Place and cause of death not reported.  He died at Weldon, close enough to be buried at home.  Bennett was the son of Joshua Bereddy Brantley > Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Edwin Brantley, b. 25 Jun 1812, m. Susan Parks 8 Aug 1839, d. 16 Nov 1895.  He was the son of Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Orren Harris Brantley, CSA, son of Edwin Brantley and Susan Parks, b. 1837  d. 1917 m. Mary Ann Rixie Murray.  Served in E Company, NC 7th Infantry, CSA.  From war record:  Resided in Nash County and enlisted at Camp Advance at age 28, June 24, 1861, for the war.  Wounded in the right leg and captured at New Bern on March 14, 1862.  Confined at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor, until exchanged at Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, August 5, 1862.  Wounded at Chancellorsville, Va, May 1-4, 1863. Rejoined the company in January-February, 1863, and present and accounted for until October, 1864.  Paroled at Raleigh on May 15, 1865.  

Mary Eliza Brantley, daughter of Sherrod Brantley.  b. 1821 d. 1894, m 20 June 1843 Lovette Taylor Brantley b. 1820 d. 1876.   Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Jacob Brantley, CSA  b. 28 Sep 1829 m. Piety Murray  4 Jul 1860 d. 1901 Served in F Company, 24th Infantry Regiment, CSA.  From War Record:  Enlisted in Nash county September 28, 1864 for the war.  Present and accounted for through February 1864.  He was the son of Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Asbury Whitfield,  son of Zilpha and Elisha Whitfield.  b. 1817 Nash Co. NC d. 1903 Banks Co. GA.  Married to (1) Rebecca A. Murray b. 10-21-1832 Banks Co. GA. Had three children with her.  Married (2) Nancy Allred abt. 1839 Franklin Co. GA. B. 7-29-1821 NC had seven children with her. Zilpha was the the sister of Sherrod Brantley and the daughter of Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Calvin Whitfield  b. 9-16-1861 Pickens Co. GA. d. 12-29-1939 in Mt Gilead, MO. Calvin was the son of John Calvin Whitfield & Martha E Morris and the Grandson of William Gray Whitfield, the Great Grandson of Zilpha Brantley and Elisha Whitfield. Zilpha was the sister of Sherwood Brantley and the daughter of Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Allen Brantley, CSA  son of Sherwood and Tabitha Stokes Brantley of Nash Co. NC born: 1831, killed in the Civil War 7-20- 1862 Goldsboro, NC. married. 10-12-1852 Wake Co. NC to Eveline Meredith Privette, born: 11-8-1837 Franklin Co. d. 7-2-1902 Franklin Co.  He served in B Company, 47th Infantry Regiment, CSA.  From his war record:  He resided in Franklin County, NC. Enlisted on 6/15/1862 at 34 years old as a private. On 4/11/1862 he mustered into "B" Co. NC 47th Infantry. He died of disease on 7/20/1862 at Goldsboro, NC and is buried there.  Additional information from Mark Ordess: Allen Brantley -  Foster's Raid on Goldsboro - Foster left New Bern on/about 13/14 Dec 1862 with about 10,000 troops - he fought Confederates at Kinston and short of Goldsboro on 15 & 16 Dec.  Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Handy Brantley,  (Home Guard) b. 24 Nov 1824  d. 28 Nov 1907,m. 29 Jan 1846 Susan Medlin b. 17 Mar 1827  d. 24 Nov 1906.  He was the son of Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Home of Joshua Bereddy Brantley,   b. 18 Apr. 1819,  d. 29 Aug 1885, m. Martha Smith 3 Feb 1836.  He was the son of Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Madeline Lane (Maddie) Brantley,   b. 28 Jan 1872  d. 21 Dec 1953.  She married Smith Winston Brantley 07 Dec 1898.  Maddie was the daughter of Mack Brantley.  Smith Winston was the son of Joshua B. Brantley.

Mack Brantley (three ages shown in photographs) He was born 18 May 1832 d. 25 Aug 1910 m. 27 March 1851  Minerva Ann Allen, b. 1831 d. 27 June 1911.  He was the son of Sherrod Brantley >Jacob Brantley > John Brantley > James Brantley > Edward Brantley II > Phillip Brantley > Edward Brantly who was in America in 1638.

Smith Winston Brantley (two ages shown in photographs) b. 12 Dec 1857  d. 09 Mar 1937 m.  07 Dec 1898 Madeline Lane Brantley  b. 28 Jan 1872  d. 21 Dec 1953 (daughter of Mack Brantley).  Smith Winston was the son of Joshua Bereddy Brantley

Malachi Brantley b. 18 Apr 1837m. 30 Dec 1885  Piety Ann D. Morgan  b. Sep 1843 d. 26 Aug 1906.   Killed Briskley Vick for cutting out Malachi's cow's tongue... went to AL.   Son of Joshua B. Brantley.

Micah Alvin Brantley, CSA, b. Sept. 1839 m. Polly Hendrick(s) 14 Jan 1866  He was the son of Joshua B. Brantley. 

Brantley School  This School was located near present day Kite Georgia.   Many descendants of James M. Brantley, pioneer to the area, attended.

Charles Groom Brantley (CSA),  He was born Jan 2 1845 in Wilcox Co, AL.  He was son of Henry and Lucinda (Grooms) Brantley.  He died in Wilcox Co, AL on Mar 13, 1907.  

Franklin Lawson Brantley and wife, Mary Ann Conn.  He was born July 22, 1828.  His father is still unknown, but he was the grandson of Amos Brantley.  HE was a Methodist Minister.  The couple issued a large family, but several died in infancy.

Lillie Ora Brantley  She was born Jul 19, 1830 in Jasper Co, GA.  She was the dg of John H. Brantley.  She married Charles Taylor.  Lillie died Sep 11, 1909 in Blount Co, TN.  Child unknown.

Thomas Jefferson Brantley  Born Aug 13, 1844 in Washington County, GA.  He was the oldest son of James M Brantley and his 1st wife, Mahala Young. 

Thomas Jeptha Gibson   Born Aug 17, 1836 in Monroe Co, GA.  He was the son of Churchill Gibson and Frances Ella Brantley, dg of Jeptha Brantley of Phillip Brantley.
