The Simeon Brantley Letters

Simeon Brantley was born in 1804 in Chatham County, North Carolina.  He came to middle Georgia about 1830. He was brother to noted theologian, Dr. William Theophilus Brantley.   The collection consist of 14 letters (several 2 pages long) written to his Chatham County relatives between July 8, 1843 and May 31, 1875.  While relatives are frequently mentioned, including his brother Dr. Brantley,  Simeon also discussed the political feelings of his neighbors and family during and after the civil war.  He often spoke of his "old home in Chatham" his parents and how he missed his childhood home.  His letters and those of his son, Benjamin Crawford, have been reconstructed in a script font on parchment paper and are loosely bound in a clear notebook.  Included is a picture of Simeon and a brief genealogical record.
