Research Sullivant
- Brantley
Recently we,
corresponded with Hugh Sullivan. He
descendents from Drury Sullivan/t who married Elizabeth Brantley. According to records there were 2 Elizabeth Brantley
who married Sullivants. One
record said that Elizabeth, dg of Robert Brantley (d 1795), married Wm
Sullivant. Although I could see no reason to rule out Drury Sullivant as
the Sullivant who married this Elizabeth,
I had somewhat accepted the report since it was written many
years ago by an experience researcher of Halifax County, NC.
Robert mentioned in his
will dg Elizabeth Sullivant and her dg Mary who he left a slave.
We have now learned from Mr Sullivan, that Drury's will of 1812
in Franklin Co, NC mentioned
that his dg Mary (Polly) Sullivant had received slaves from her
grandfather. Further, he
names one of his slaves as Judes.
Robert left slave Jude to dg Elizabeth Sullivant.
We are satisfied that
Elizabeth, the dg of Robert Brantley, married Drury Sullivan/t not Wm
Sullivan/t, as once reported.
This is a perfect
example how coordinating facts between researchers and the Association
can prove very productive. Now,
Mr. Sullivan has resolved his Sullivan/Brantley connection and so have
we identified the true husband of this Elizabeth and have thus
identified more descendants of grandfather Edward Brantly.
