I defintly did like this movie, mainly because it's not one of the usual fluff movies coming out at the moment. The movie itself was watchable, but not the type you can watch while two or three things at the same time. It is a very serious movie though, espically when we know what's going to happen with the IRA in Northen Irleand now.
Knowing what's going to happen with the IRA is one of the two minor complainents, I have with this movie. As the people showen in the movie come across as being very young and idealistic, mostly as good men who slowly go down hill. With the English as all evil, of course. But, I couldn't help thinking about the modern day IRA's killing sprees and the Catholics and the Prosentants.
The other problem is Liam's age during the movie, as Michael Collins was in his twenties and died at 32 in the movie. But Liam was in his forties, when he made the movie, which ruined some of the ideas behind the man he was playing. What I mean is Micheal Collins was very young and compartivly inexperinced when he joined the IRA, and was still very young when he was killed. But Liam couldn't help but look far too old, it wasn't as if he was giving up his youth and most of his future when his character died at the end of the movie.
It also was not the same, as Michael Collins had been a twenty-something when he managed to bring the first possiblty of peace with Britain. But it doesn't seem the same when you see Liam, as he couldn't help but come across as an more experienced forty year old.
But, those are my only complatents about the whole movie. So it really is worth watching, espically if you're intertested in history in gerneral or just in the history of Ireland. And it's a damn pity it wasn't made 15 - 20 years ago, when Liam was the perfect age to play the role of Michael! :)
