Pillow Book

I liked the Pillow Book, dispite being very disappointed about how little screen time Ewan's character gets. I had assumed he would be in a lot more of the movie, as he is on the cover.

That's not to say he charater isn't in a lot of the movie in one form or the other. It's just that Ewan isn't in much of it. In fact the plot doesn't start properly until his character arrives, and the ending hangs around his character.

But, the parts that do includle Ewan, are, well, devinie! And are certainly worth watching! Be warned though, it is very much an art house movie and you really have to follow the plot carefully to understand what is happening. One of the hardest parts to get used to, was the way they had 2 pieces of film running at the same time. One section taking up the top 3/4's and the second filling a square at the bottom. With each showing different action.

One thing that really struck me, was the way a number of the charcters seemed to spend most of the time wandering naked, Ewan's incudled. And it would have been diffcuilt for the director to make any more graphic.

If you like odd art house movies, then it is worth seeing the whole movie. But be warned it is long and you do have to concentrate to follow what there is of a plot.
