The Chaotix

Small in the actual world of the Sonic games (their only appearance(s) was in "Knuckles Chaotix" a--WRONGFULLY, in my opinion--panned game for the failed Sega 32-X add-on system, except for Mighty, who also appeared in the obscure "SegaSonic Arcade" a year or two earlier, and Espio, who appeared in the equally obscure arcade game "Sonic the Fighters") but large in the world of Sonic FANDOM, the Chaotix are a legend that just won't quit. Well, maybe not a LEGEND...but the truth is, whether they have played the actual game or not (and most Sonic fans haven't) the fans find the Chaotix to be interesting characters. The idea of a "gang" made up of four animals of VERY different types from the average Mobian Furry--including two reptiles and an insect, even!--with very unique powers, very colourful, different, seperate personalities AND each with his own, secret, hidden background and/or agenda--is very fascinating to amateur fanfic writers and published comic book authors alike. In my opinion, the Chaotix are WAY more interesting than the Freedom Fighters. They live in a more interesting place (the Floating Island can kick ANYplaces's butt for sheer diversity, mystery, beauty, and danger), they have a more serious job (they help Knuckles guard the Master Emerald) and they have a more "in-your-face" attitude. Plus, the Freedom Fighters have a whole "family" type thing going on, they are all good friends and they lean on each other, etc. To the point of being a bit sappy. Whereas the Chaotix members, when it comes to the crunch, CAN lean on each other, yes, BUT most of the time they're a bunch of mysterious, rather moody loners who just happen to work together for convenience's sake.
They are referred to as Knuckles' "gang" but I think they work for him more out of gratitude and friendship than because they actually see him as an authority figure. Let's put it this way--if the Chaotix WANT to obey an order of Knuckles', they will, if they don't, they won't. (Or one member might obey while another doesn't--they're not an inseperable set or anything.)
The original, "core" Chaotix members are Mighty the Armadillo, Espio the Chameleon, Vector the Crocodile and Charmy Bee. Most fans tend to like Espio best because of his cool abilities and mysterious background and dislike Vector for his rap-talk (in the comics; he doesn't act like that in the game), I myself have fallen for the "charming" little bee and his sophisticated ways, and think that Mighty is the "worst" one because he's basically Sonic with strength instead of speed--he has the least originality and depth, if you ask me--but no matter what, almost EVERY Sonic fan knows who they are, and has a favourite. "Auxilliary" members of the Chaotix include: From the Archie comics universe: Archimedes the Fire Ant, Julie-Su Echidna, and, just recently, Ray the Flying Squirrel (Mighty's buddy; he was also in SegaSonic Arcade with our armoured excercise-freak friend.) with Constable Remington not being a MEMBER exactly, but a close ally. In the Fleetaway (British import) comic universe, Ray has been a member from Day One, as has Nack/Fang the Weasel (from the Game Gear title "Sonic Triple Trouble"--which, again, I have never played...) And from MY own fanfics, they eventually pick up Electra the Hedgehog and Kalo Echidna, but that's just me...
At any rate, the Chaotix are an interesting and dangerous group whose good side you definitely want to be on--and whose bad side you DON'T!

850 curious tourists have stopped by to visit or perhaps join the Chaotix since June 17, 1999. Of course, they were all turned away because they were such wimps, but hey...
