Charmy Bee

Charmy is one of the two Chaotix members who was NOT born/hatched (actually, ALL of them except Mighty would fall into the "hatched" category!) on the Floating Island. (The other native Mobian is the aforementioned Mighty the Armadillo, in my version.) He was blown onto the Island in a heavy storm one night while flying a bit too high. When he landed, he was badly beat up, half-frozen, more than half-drowned, with a broken wing and total amnesia--or so he SAID. In actuality, he was PRETENDING to not know who he was so as to better dodge his heavy responsibilties back home, but the others believed him; after all, it WAS possible that the storm had blown him headfirst into a tree or something. Feeling sorry for him, Knuckles and the other Chaotix took him in and nursed him back to health, and he later joined their group out of gratitude, moving to the Island permanently. He is the very last-joined member of the Chaotix, not counting the comic-book versions where they picked up people such as Julie-Su, Nack the Weasel, or Ray the Flying Squirrel. (This is all my own interpretation. I've heard two versions of how he got to the Island--one says he was blown there in a storm, but I forget where I read that, and the official SegaSonic version is that he was "in search of new flowers" and it was a perfectly nice day. The amnesia bit is mine, but almost EVERYONE seems to agree that Charmy is NOT originally from the Island.)
Currently, he lives in a small house that can only be reached by flying, with a door that only a bee could comfortably fit through, in the majestic yet ruined area of Marble Gardens.
He is a VERY polite and proper little honeybee, Mr. Manners and wants everyone else to act that way too, and will correct you if you don't--a bit stuffy. He talks with an "uppah-clahss" British accent (well, in MY fanfics he does, anyway) and a rather mannered dialect. He is very elegant and classy in everything he does. He's also a real little CHATTERBOX--he's friendly, but once you get him talking it's rather hard to make him stop. (Sound like anybody we know? Like maybe a certain small female echidna? Nah...;) ) The name "Charmy" isn't just an idle nickname--he actually IS very charming and able to make people do what he wants by acting very nice towards them. But don't be fooled--that calm, polite exterior hides a rather NASTY temper, and if you bug him enough, he WILL get just as rude as anybody else...and he's a blistering master of insults! (That last bit is my own, not "canon".)
The strange thing is, even though he's just as, if not MORE, prissy than Antoine, most fans seem to not hate him as much as they do the coyote Freedom Fighter. I guess it's because, for all his stuffiness and foppishness, Charmy is still relatively BRAVE, whereas Antoine is supposedly a coward. I still actually LIKE Antoine anyway, though. (To give you an idea of how "prissy" Charmy is--if he were human, I see him sipping an almond latte, lightly dusted with just a "whisper" of cinnamon, in the Café Nervosa, impeccable in his imported Italian silk suit, discussing the opera and men's fashions with Dr. Niles Crane--from "Frasier", right? but that's just me...) His house is also a study in understated elegance and muted matching colours, with everything EXACTLY in its place at all times.
WHY does he act so formal? Well, it turns out (in the comic books, and I've decided to actually USE this part of their plotline) that he was raised in the Royal Court. Not only that, but the CROWN Prince of the entire Golden Hive!
You see, the unfortunate truth is that, since the Chaotix members were given only rudimentary personalities in the actual instruction booklet for "Knuckles Chaotix"--and I don't think "personalities" is quite the word for it, more like their special abilities and a running gag or two for each one--most, if not ALL, of the character and background information for Charmy, Vector, Espio, and Mighty HAS to come from the comic books! Unofficial as they may be, in this case they are the ONLY source of information we have. That, and the fans' own imaginings, which are also quite necessary to fill these characters out and make them more "real". But thank the gods for people like Ken Penders, who saw the Chaotix as viable characters and gave them something real to do. (He also wrote Charmy OUT of the story by having him realise that he shouldn't have turned his back on his duty to his own people like that, and he sadly returns home, presumably to take the throne! So he's gone, but at least he got to leave in style...) The Golden Hive is in an area of Mobius called "Strawberry Fields" (forever? GROAN!) and he has a mother, a father, and a sister, but they were never named. In my stories, they're King Charles Edward the II, Queen Melissa, and Princess Debbie (Deborah) but that's NOT, repeat, NOT official in any way.
Oh, and--also from the comic books, I guess--he and Espio do NOT get along. Espio has this urge to swat the little honeybee for his snippiness and Charmy thinks the purple chameleon has the most ATROCIOUS manners. Everyone else just stays the heck out of their way...
And yet...somehow...they are also the best of friends.
WHAT?!
Yeah, that was my reaction, too.
His game abilities include unlimited flying time (as compared to Tails, who gets tired after a few seconds), his stinger as a weapon, and the fact that he is so incredibly SMALL he can slip into almost any crack and is harder to crush than the other characters.
He used to be my second-favourite Chaotix member, (after his "friendly nemesis", Espio) but now, for some odd reason, he's my VERY favourite and I can't figure out why. Guess he just CHARMED me into it...(okay, okay, that was bad, I know...)

565 curious tourists have stopped by to have a nice little chat with Charmy since June 19, 1999. Of course, he...invited them in for tea, biscuits, (cookies for you non-Angophile Americans) and a lovely conversation. What, you thought I was gonna say he stung them to death, didn't you? Admit it. Come on. Yeah, I got you good. Hee hee.
