Antoine D'Coolette
Antoine is an 18-year-old...well, I'm not really sure WHAT he is. I read somewhere that he was half-fox, and half...squirrel? Poodle? And some say he's a coyote. Well, since he LOOKS more like a coyote than any of the other available choices, that's what I'm going with, but I don't know how official that is...
First off, Antoine is from the Saturday morning "Sonic the Hedgehog" cartoon (or SatAM as the fan-boys and girls call it), and then the comic books--and NOT in any of the games (although like Bunnie and Sally he supposedly had a cameo appearance in "Sonic Spinball") so he's not a "canon" character. He's still interesting, though, regardless of his "un-canon" status. He is another character who speaks with an accent, like Bunnie--only in this case a very heavy, exaggerated French accent (like you couldn't tell by his name!) He is, or used to be, anyway, one of the royal guards of House Acorn before they were kicked off the throne and had their kingdom taken over by Robotnik. Now he's one of the Freedom Fighters and the personal guard of Princess Sally, and takes his jobs VERY SERIOUSLY. (Which seems to be a Sonic-universe-protagonist trait in general...) Although most Mobians eschew clothes except for what's needed for protection, Antoine ALWAYS wears his uniform, because it's his father's uniform and it's all he has left of him. (Like most residents of the former Mobotropolis, he tragically lost his family to roboticisation and war at a young age.) At any rate, despite his notable abilities as a swordsman, he's not MUCH of a guard. Antoine is notorious for being a coward and ALWAYS prefers to stay behind and "guard the rear" rather than rush forward to save people or whatever. This makes the other characters--and most fans hate his guts--and instantly makes ME like him. I specialise in liking the characters that everyone else picks on, throws aside, and just automatically dismisses as "no good". To me, Antoine is kinda sympathetic, in a way. Because he's not ALL cowardly--every now and then, he manages to fight it and do something brave. But only every now and then, as compared to all the time like the others.
I'm not the only one who kinda likes him--in the Archie comic book version, Bunnie is in LOVE with him!--and they have developed into one of the most romantic couples--in a weird way!--of the entire series. And along the way with this new relationship, Antoine seems to have lost a bit of his uptight-ness and gained a bit of courage. Originally, he only had eyes for Princess Sally Acorn, which was unfortunate as Sally herself only had eyes for Sonic, and being cowardly, weak, and without any special powers, Antoine didn't have a CHANCE being noticed by her. But he's much happier now with Bunnie, and now that he's no longer chasing after Sally, his relationship with Sonic--formerly VERY antagonistic--has gotten a bit smoother, too.
Like Charmy, he is another rather prim and proper character, having been raised in a Royal Court, but unlike Sally he has not tossed aside those old mannerisms in the new, rough-and-ready rebel situation they find themselves in--he has STAYED "old-fashioned" and "stuffy", which is yet another reason that most fans don't like him and I do. I LIKE the characters who are different...
All in all, he's not a great hero with special powers like most of the others, but he's a decent character and an ordinary guy--more like you and me.

curious tourists have stopped by to have a quiet afternoon chat with Antoine D'Coolette since June 17, 1999. Of course, he ran all the rude, annoying ones through on his sword, but hey...
