The Mystic Cave Zone
The Mystic Cave Zone is the sixth level of the game "Sonic 2" for the Genesis, and a rather interesting place. It's a treacherous area full of giant worms and annoying flash-bugs, and all KINDS of traps and gadgets. And the music! The music, in my not-so-humble opinion, stated simply, kicks tail. It is reminiscent of that classical music song--whatever it's called--that is used for Robotnik's theme in the "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" cartoon--set to a disco beat, but it ALSO has part of the same "dark circus" music in it that the Carnival Night Zone theme in Sonic 3 is built off of. (Thanks to Vector from the Sonic HQ for pointing that last part out, 'cos I NEVER realised it before!)
Anyway, enough about the music, what about the level itself? Well, for a place that was originally called the "Dust Hill Zone" in the Beta version of Sonic 2, it surely doesn't look very dusty or hilly. It takes place inside a cave with a metallic and relatively flat floor, where all kinds of bugs, boxes, springs, spikes, vines, and tripwires try to...well...TRIP...you up. And often succeed. Though this level may not appear that hard at first, tourists should beware, as there are some traps that you just CAN'T get out of, should you be unfortunate enough to fall into them.
All in all, the Mystic Cave Zone is an interesting place to visit but as the saying goes--I wouldn't want to be trapped there at the bottom of a pit of spikes and man-eating bugs forever. Wait, that's now how the saying goes...hey...

curious tourists have stopped by to travel through the Mystic Caves since August 6, 1999. Of course, they all got lost in the dark when their flashlights gave out and were never seen again, but hey...
