Dr. Ivo Robotnik/Julian Kintobor

Ah, the Big Guy himself. Dr. Ivo Robotnik, or, as he is called in Japan, "Dr. Eggman", is THE main villian of the Sonic series. He has been in practically every single game, cartoon episode, and comic book volume (up to a certain point.) He even got his OWN game, for the Genesis--"Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine." He is one of THE big players of the Sonic universe--and the one Sonic and his friends could do the most without.
He started off, and I don't know how "canon" this is--as a GOOD guy, the kindly Dr. Kintobor. He discovered the Chaos Emeralds (or in one version, CREATED them--but I believe that they are just a natural force that occurs on its own in the Sonic universe.) and was experimenting on them--trying to find a way to cram all the "evilness" of the universe into them so that it would be trapped away, and then everyone would be safe and happy. While he was doing this, Sonic met him and befriended him, and helped him by running errands, and in return Dr. Kintobor made him a pair of shoes with special heat-resistant soles so that they wouldn't catch on fire from the friction when Sonic ran as fast as he could. Then he supplied Sonic with a special treadmill so he could train, and after a while, he had gotten SO fast he could break the sound barrier.
Meanwhile, the Chaos Emerald experiments continued, until one day Sonic came in and talked to the Dr. at a bad time, I guess, and distracted him--and disaster struck. First, all the collected evil energy in the emeralds overbalanced and exploded, going into Dr. Kintobor and turning him ULTIMATELY, insanely, overwhelmingly evil. Secondly, somehow a rotten egg in the refrigerator and a robot that he was working on both got into the equation as well. The result? "Dr. Eggman" or Robotnik in the "States", an insane dictator whose ultimate goal is to turn EVERYBODY and everything into a robot. (Is it just me, or should we pit the good Doctor and the Borg against each other and see what happens? BWAHAHA.) And he is strangely obsessed with eggs, for some reason--practically every vehicle or structure he makes is based off the shape of the egg in some way, from his tiny personal flying machines to his huge, enourmous, killer space station, "The Death Egg." At any rate, he then tried to kill Sonic, but then his own actions came back to haunt him, as it was the Doctor's own training that made Sonic fast enough to escape him!
Truly a weird character. But don't let that weirdness fool you--this is no harmless eccentric, but a dangerous villian. He has roboticised many of Sonic's friends and when that happens, they become his helples slaves, with no free will anymore. He ALMOST did that to Bunnie and he did do that to Sonic's parents among many others, so it can happen to almost anyone. And most frightening of all are his MAJOR creations, his masterworks, the pinnacle of his robot-making skills: Mecha Sonic, Robo Knuckles, and to a lesser extent, the Tails Doll. Made using the character's DNA, they are the perfect more-powerful-parallell versions of their originals. The Tails Doll is a bit different, since it does not incorporate any of the original Tails' DNA, but still extremely creepy and yucky-looking.
Oh, and in the cartoon, Robotnik has a nephew named "Snively", a truly wretched creature with a huge nose. Snively and Robotnik are pretty much the only significant Human characters in this universe--the others are all animals. (The comic books might have more Human characters but I wouldn't know.)
At any rate, even though Dr. Eggman will only be mentioned in my fanfic in passing, as I am a bit sick of him and want to use a DIFFERENT villian for a change, he deserves to be described here anyway, as he is a very significant part of the "Sonic Universe".

453 INSANE tourists stopped by to talk to Dr. Robotnik since June 23, 1999, and of course, they were all made into evil robotic slaves immediately.
