Casino Night Zone
The Casino Night Zone is Sonic Team's SECOND attempt at a "fun-time zone" (Spring Yard being the dismal failed result of the first attempt) and they did a much better job with it this time around. It IS a fun level--although it's annoyingly easy to get trapped at times--but this colourful, springy place resembles something out of a pinball game come to life more than its more sophisticated successor, Casinopolis.
The springboards, flippers, and bouncy catapults fling you around from place to place in a spiky blue ball, while at the same time you travel through a glitzy, trashy world where EVERYTHING is made out of or outlined with neon--MOVING neon!--with slot machines, dollar signs, and show-bizzy Vegas-lounge-style music to match. So is it a pinball level, or is it a casino level? The Casino Night Zone doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind on the subject!
All in all, it's a fairly nice place to visit--if you play your cards right you can win TONS of rings for free, plus there are all kinds of goodies just laying around, both out in the open and hidden--and there's only one type of enemy, and they move so slowly they are not really a threat. The only real hazard here is that sometimes a bumper-thing might keep whacking into your head and make it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to jump out of a pit-trap; or occasionally you can be squished by a giant box. Other than that, though, it's fairly safe. Robotnik at the end is another matter, however...

curious tourists have tried their luck at the Casino Night Zone since July 30, 1999. Of course, they lost all their rings in the slot machine games and were then flattened to a paste by Robotnik, but hey...
