Absolute Chaotix, Part Four

FLY Like an Egyptian?

By Mello

It was now about 3:00 in the afternoon--or at least it would have been were they back home, but this place seemed to have a slightly longer day than Earth--and the sun had come up, showing a perfectly ordinary blue sky, which reassured Sharon a bit. Charmy, after packing both hoops of the "ring-tether" in his backpack (of COURSE he had a backpack; don't be silly) then showed her how he had earned his name--he truly WAS a charming companion. Witty, funny, elegant, sophisticated, and with absolutely impeccable manners. He acted as if he had been raised in a very wealthy and important family--yet HADN'T let it go to his head. He was classy without being snooty. Of all the people she could hope to first meet in such a strange and terrifying new land, she had certainly lucked out...
Charmy interrupted her thoughts just then. "Care for a sip?" he asked holding out a thermos of something sweet-smelling and pale brown to her.
Sharon bent down to take a sniff. "What is it?"
"Frappucino," he grinned. "I must confess to a bit of an addiction to the stuff. But of course, I AM a honeybee, we DO like our sweets..."
Sharon took a sip, as she was feeling a bit peckish after all the hiking they'd been doing, and they continued on.
They had left the Carnival zone behind long ago. Now they found themselves in a desert area of shifting sands, huge pyramids, shimmering blue crystal towers, giant sand-worms and scorpions, rope-swings that were TONS of fun, a beautiful sunset-coloured sky, and some mysterious, exotic music playing in the background. What IS it with this strange Island and its ongoing soundtrack?! Sharon wondered irritably. Then she wondered how she was hearing at all, suddenly, since she no longer had visible ears. Tiny holes in the sides of her head? Her antennae? Whatever, best not to ask too many questions or, in this strange place, she might loose the hearing she had.
Charmy then stopped in front of the doorway of one of the gigantic yellow sandstone pyramids. "I have to get in there," he explained to her. "I have a suspicion that Espio's trapped in there, and much as I do think his manners fall between the barbarian and the atrocious, he IS my friend and I feel I have to save him. Coming? After all, even if it IS more dangerous in there, at least it's out of this dreadfully hot sun."
Sharon considered her options.
